Reencuentro/Reconnect Student Trip

Arte, Inc . in collaboration with the New Haven School District has put together an amazing trip for students to learn about Latin Culture.   “Reencuentro / Reconnect” is a hands on project involving fifteen (15) 11th grade students from various High Schools in New Haven.  The goal of this project is to expose and connect students to various components of Latino Culture. Each student graduated Arte’s SLATE program (Socialization and Learning Adventures Through Education), an intensive two-year social and life skills program.  During this time they learned valuable skills to help them succeed academically and socially at school and in future careers.  These students have gone on to excel in school, all maintaining solid grades, attitudes and ambition!  This is a great opportunity for these students to practice the skills they have learned in a new environment.

Staying at a University for the first time, (University of Puerto Rico) students will be interacting with variety of other students.  This adventure will be an amazing psychological boost to these underserved kids.  This exposure to Puerto Rican and Latin Life, Culture, History and Art, will be an experience of a lifetime.

Leaving on June 24, 2016, this 7 night trip to Puerto Rico includes staying at the University of Puerto Rico giving students the opportunity to experience college life.  The program is designed broaden students life perspective, develop communication skills, enhance their understanding of Puerto Rican history, cultural and biodiversity.  The University’s program gives an overview of the island’s culture and explores its history, arts, folklore, ecology, economics, geography and politics. The courses are designed as a series of lectures and workshops in each field that are integrated with field trips and cultural activities around the island.  

The itinerary includes; lectures at The University of Puerto Rico with trips to El Yunque Rain Forest, Montserrat Beach, Cabezas de San Juan, Old San Juan, Columbus Statue in Arecibo, Observatory of Arecibo, Camuy Caves, Afro Caribbean Dance, and many other spots.  This is a fantastic opportunity for these worthy kids!  All of whom must maintain their academics, attendance, attitudes to qualify for this trip.
