Filmmaker Goes to TromaDance in NYC

Donation protected

Greetings from Tromaville! Well, not yet actually. My name is Michael Viers and I'm a filmmaker from Milwaukee, WI and I made a small little film entitled "From the Darkness Theatre". It's been a passion piece for years and now that I've been sending it out, it's been getting the love I had always wished it would.

Last year it played at 7 different film festivals from the Short Film Corner at Cannes to the Housecore Horror Festival in Texas where it screened after Dario Argento's "Suspiria".

Most recently the film has been accepted to play at the TromaDance Film Festival in Brooklyn, New York and it's been a huge honor. Lloyd Kaufman, the CEO of Troma and Creator of the Toxic Avenger had a lot of good things to say about the film at the Cannes Film Festival and I'd love to be able to go to NY to support my film.

However, the issue is funding. It's an expensive trip and even a little bit will help. I created this page as a way for friends and family to show their love if they feel so bold as to do so. A little or a lot, any and all donations are welcomed, appreciated and loved.

I don't plan to have traditional rewards, but since FTDT is getting close to the end of it's festival run, I'll be giving out DVDs of the film as a reward for your kindness and the soundtrack to the film. I'm making the minimum donation for the DVD $5 and the DVD+Soundtrack combo $10. The soundtrack is only a few short tracks of the score composed by actor Michael Denk, but the tunes are cool and really bring you into the world of FTDT. Also included is the Teak Wood Gallows song "The Long Line" and Rudy Vallee's track "Deep Night" which plays in the film.
Below are some of the great things people have said about the film.

"That was a pretty grim movie! In a good way. I totally didn't expect it to take that direction. I like the strange world it existed in - monster movie hosts broadcast in black and white but shot
on a DSLR, a weird old movie theater that scarcely seems to be in operation - and the melancholy tone of it all. The murder was, again, a surprise, but it definitely made me sit up, and the arc it takes from that wonderfully nostalgic beginning to the brutal end is really fascinating." "“ David Lowery, Director of "Ain't Them Bodies Saints"

"From the moment I started watching 'From the Darkness Theatre', I was hooked. The story, enhanced by the vibrant visuals, had me wanting more." -- Gil Cates, Jr., Director of "The Surface" & "Deal" as well as Co-Producer of "Jobs"

"I really loved 'From the Darkness Theatre' and feel Michael Viers is a director to watch out for. The color, the art direction and the character/story all had me wanting more. Mr. Viers has a feature in him waiting to escape." -- Lloyd Kaufman, President of Troma Entertainment and creator of The Toxic Avenger

"I really liked the movie. Great production value... Loved the aspect ratio transition." -- Dan Yeager, Leatherface in "Texas Chainsaw 3D"

"Great job. Has a very glossy look and the protagonist resembles Bill Moseley. Nicely shot. Good luck with it." -- Author and Film Critic Joe Bob Briggs.
