Healing Emily Grace

 On May 2nd, 2014 our lives were turned upside down when our youngest daughter Emily Kozak was diagnosed with Leukemia or Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

I took Emily to her pediatrician on Friday thinking that she had Allergies, she sent Emily for a Chest X-Ray and Blood Work. By the time Emily and I came home we were told to go to Metro Health Center as we were expected. My heart dropped. I had no idea what was wrong, but knew it wasn't good by the urgency of the doctor to get her to the hospital.

It was at Metro they informed that she had Leukemia and that she needed to be life-flighted to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. Here they did a bone marrow biopsy and lumbar puncture and confirmed Emily's diagnosis.

The Leukemia cells completely took over her blood and no longer worked to fight infection. Emily has NO Immune system. Therefore she will not be able to go home until it is safe to do so. Her team of doctors expect that she will be hospitalized for at least 28 days from the start of her therapy.
