Medical Bills-Maxillofacial Procedure
Hello everyone! My name is Devon Leigh and I am asking for your assistance to help me pay for my maxillofacial (jaw surgery) that I am having this summer. When I was 7 years old, I was diagnosed with Arthrogryposis, a rare muscular dystrophy condition that affects 1 in every 3000 children. It is not reversable, but with the advancements of medicine and technology some of the symptoms can be repaired to a near normal state. From the time I was 7 until now (I am 23) I have had 7 surgeries to ensure that I would have as normal a childhood as possible. Between the success of the surgeries, my drive and determination to not let this disease affect me, and my amazing, supportive, loving family and friends, I was able to have a positive upbringing. I was a cheerleader for 8 years for crying out loud! In other words, I am an extremely lucky young woman. I am not done yet. This upcoming summer I will undergo my 8th, and hopefully final, surgery. It will put me out of work for nearly 2 months and I rarely get nervous, but in this instance, I am! All of my prior surgeries were under the care of the amazing Shriners Hospital for Children. When I fisrt visited the Shriners in Chicago, I had almost no lower jaw and my upper jaw was so prominent that I looked really...goofy? After a couple of summers and 2 maxillofacial surgeries, I look a lot more normal! However, at the time, the medical field was as advanced as it could be and I looked normal, however my bite was far from. Now that I am over the age of 18, I can no longer see them and have the wonderful surgeons that have given me new life, help me now. My dentist, worried about the state of my teeth, contacted her surgeon friend from college about my case, and that is how I came to meet Dr. Brian Chisdak. He is promising me something that I thought I would never get, a normal jaw biting plane. I am so lucky to have him taking great care of me, but the real hero in my story...is my parents. They have sacrificed so much for me over the past 23 years and even though I know I will truly never be able to repay them for all of the emotional stress they endured watching their daughter go in and out of hospitals, I am hoping I can help them with this one surgery. The cost of the procedure I will be undergoing is around $10,000 and the hospital fees will be just a little over $5,000.
I will have to dig around some old photos at home for a 'before' picture. These are the xrays of all of the srews and pins and plates from the first 2 jaw surgeries.

This is what I look like today! Pretty face, Bad bite!
I am asking for your help, to help my parents, with gracious, open arms. Peace and Love, forever and ever. Xoxo
