A message from Karen, Community Advocate at the Rainbow Center:
"Dear Rainbow Community,
Thank you so much for your donations and support in renewing my and my brothers DACA. I am so grateful to be part of this community! Many of you might not know me, hi! My name is Karen, the friendly face of the Rainbow Center and advocate in training. I was among the hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrant youth affected by this administration when the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program was rescinded back in September. I wasn't able to renew my DACA by the closing deadline but now due to recent court rulings, DACA is opening up for renewals again. This came as a surprise to many of us and families like mine are struggling to collect the $465 filing fee before this window closes again. Losing our DACA would risk losing our jobs and ability to keep ourselves afloat in this world. We don't know how long our opportunity to renew will be so we are asking for help to fundraise those funds for my brother and I before we lose our opportunity again. As a brown, queer, and undocumented mujer, I am so grateful that there is a community of compassionate individuals that I can reach out to in these times of crisis. Help if you are able, call your representatives if your heart moves you and continue to support our immigrant and refugee populations here in Tacoma.
