THE CHOOCH IS HOME!!!

Levi Update:

Last Tuesday, we were given a devastating diagnosis for Levi. Based on Levi's history and MRI with the stronger magnet, the epileptic neurologist diagnosed him with Alper's Disease, with the genetic confirmation pending. Alper's Disease is no bruno; it is the progressive, fatal genetic disorder we've been grieving for the last week.

Well, Levi Fanatics, IT IS NOT ALPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The geneticist doctor called this morning and the it is definitely not Alper's.
That said, we still don't know what it is, and there are numerous lighter shades of bad that are possible, but

WE WILL NOT GIVE UP HOPE! It's been a very dark week, and we have been lifted up by our friends and family, and their friends and family. We are truly carried by God on this one, and we are not walking alone. We appreciate the continued love, prayers, thoughts, and donations to keep Team Zumwalt going. We'd never survive this alone. The Lord is our shepherd!

Levi Update: The Answer

Levi Benjamin Zumwalt has been diagnosed with a progressive and fatal genetic disorder.

He is in good hands here at Cook. They are weaning his coma so that he can wake him up and extubate him. He's already started to blink at us when we talk.

Over the next few weeks we will work on getting him home and as seizure free as possible.
Levi is our beautiful miracle baby whose time with us is short. We don't know how much longer, but he'll be as happy and as comfortable as possible.

Please don't take offense if we are silent for awhile; we are with the Chooch.
Please pray for Levi and for #TeamZumwalt.

MONDAY, MAY 5

Hi, it's Nick, Levi's daddy--

Well, they stopped his coma last night, and about 0400 this morning, he resumed having electrical seizures on the EEG.

They are putting him back into a barbiturate coma and arranging for air transport to Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth, which will probably happen tomorrow.

Needless to say, we are anguished by this news and are ready for our little Chooch to get better. We want to see his eyes, his smile, his fist go in his mouth. His vital signs otherwise look great--we're desperate for an answer and for his seizures to go away.

Our hope is that Cooks can tell us what is wrong, find a place they can treat, and fix our little boy.

For those that don't know, Levi is our miracle baby. We lost our second son Liam the day he was born in 2010. Laura got healthy and we prayed for a normal pregnancy and healthy child.

Our so needs help and we need answers and a cure.

Thank you all!

Nick, Laura, Isaac, and Levi Zumwalt

THANK YOU FROM THE ZUMWALT FAMILY.

OUR STORY: As a family, we are coming together and asking for some help in this tumultuous time. Nick and Laura are going through a tremendous struggle with their youngest son. After dealing with serious health issues that ail Laura and and having lost baby Liam to complications from birth a few years ago, this is an especially trying time for everyone. After being blessed with baby Levi, things were finally falling into place...until recently. At the age of 7 months, he is in the PICU for the third time now with uncontrollable seizures.  He is now intubated and being tested for every cause possible.  While figuring out the diagnosis  is first priority, another important factor is Nick and Laura being able to stay by Levi's side.  They have been there through all of this so far, but money is becoming a more prominent factor.  Laura is out of leave from her job and Nick doesn't have any official vacation time from his new job. All of the bills from the hospital are piling up. Now the doctors have decided to run genetic tests to try and pinpoint a cause for these seizures.  Most insurance policies do not cover this advanced testing.  Today we are asking for your help to help cover the cost of testing and other costs that come with situations like these.  We know that there are many supporters of Team Zumwalt out there and we ask you to rally for them now during this struggle to heal baby Levi.  We don't ask for much. If you could just donate as much as 10 dollars, it would make a real difference. Of course you can donate more, but anything helps. We know there are so many of you out there that care and feel helpless, wanting to help, so if you could help out a little and donate to the Zumwalts, it would really make such a difference and lighten their load.
