Hello wonderful friends and generous donors!

I am writing to you today to let you know that Bill is declining more rapidly and Nena is looking at in patient facilities while having added in home assistance daily 6 out of 7 days a week.

This breaks my heart for my dearest friends.

Nena is trying so hard to keep Bill at home because she can oversee and participate in his care. This IS NOT SUSTAINABLE. In MY opinion, we are months away from Bill’s transition to in-patient care, and I ask ALL of you to consider contributing what you can to assist in his long term care.

Humbly and with much gratitude,

Kathy Gray

Dear Friends -

As many of you know,  after two years of relentless testing, Bill Thompson was officially diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s  at the age of 57.

Alzheimer’s disease is NOT a normal part of the aging process, and in the case of early onset, it is often very aggressive.

As this horrible disease progresses, it robs the individual of their independence, their ability to earn a living, their ability to express themselves as they used to, and their ability to perform even the most mundane tasks such as bathing, brushing their teeth and hair, and dressing.

8 years into this disease, Bill is at the stage where Nena can no longer leave him alone. She is DEVOTED to him, and continues to do her best to keep him stimulated, safe and well cared for, and deeply loved.

Nena has some help while she is at work, thanks to the assistance of Bill’s incredible sister Karen Thompson,  a part-time professional caregiver, and a dear friend- when available. But, things are at a stage where more intense professional assistance is needed in the home during the week, and it comes at a cost they will not be able manage alone on their current income.  For this in-home interim care, the cost will run between $4,000 - $4,800 per month, on top of normal living expenses.

The time is quickly approaching when Bill will have to be moved to an Alzheimer’s Care Facility. The cost for that can run between $5,000-$8,000 a month.
Unfortunately, regular health insurance DOES NOT cover any of these costs, and they do not yet qualify for Medicaid.

This disease BANKRUPTS people. It also takes a devastating toll, physically and emotionally on family caregivers.

Our initial financial goal is: $75,000. If we can achieve that, I think we can achieve more over time!

All money raised will go directly to Bill’s care as needed.

So, for all who love our Bill and Nena, I ask that you contribute what you can, and as often as you can.  Please help spread the word within our community by sharing this campaign on Facebook, via email, etc. If you wish to donate anonymously, GoFundMe offers that option on the donation page.

Humbly and with great affection,

Kathy Gray
