The Zentangle® Method*, created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.

I stumbled across the wonderful world of Zentangle one serendipitous day in June 2013, and it was love at first sight. I was captivated by the beauty and complexity of tangle patterns and Zentangle-inspired art, and knew I had to begin learning this creative process myself.

Eager to get started, I bought a selection of books and supplies, researched and bookmarked several related websites, watched some instructional videos, then got down to the business of learning to tangle. Right from the time I first put pen to paper I was hooked, and never looked back! I wrote about my tangling journey in "For the love of tangling" (a blog post on Alphabet Salad), and continue to share both my practice work and finished pieces in my online gallery Ten Thousand Tangles, and invite you to visit and take a look for yourself.

A long-time blogger, I decided to participate in the worldwide "Blogging from A to Z Challenge" during the month of April 2014. Inspired by my love of Zentangle, I chose "Tangling from A to Z" as my theme for the month. My daily challenge posts highlighted the process of learning three new-to-me tangle patterns each day and then incorporating them into a finished piece, and were in most cases my readers' very first introduction to Zentangle.

At some point during the month of April I realized just how much I wanted to continue sharing my enthusiasm and passion for Zentangle even after the blogging challenge was over, and knew that if I wanted to do so I would have to take the next logical step. It was time to put my dream of becoming a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) into action.

So I am tangling to become a CZT! By offering one-of-a-kind pieces of original artwork in various sizes in exchange for donations of various levels, I am hoping to raise enough to cover the costs involved in my attendance at an upcoming CZT Seminar in Providence, Rhode Island. The target of $2,500 (US) will cover seminar registration, travel costs, and shared accommodations at the seminar hotel, and my successful completion of the seminar will allow me to use the CZT designation and teach Zentangle to others.

I thank you for any support you are able to offer, whether monetary or moral, as I work to achieve this dream!

I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of my kind and generous sponsors who "took a little piece of my art" and helped me earn money towards my attendance at a CZT seminar. While my GoFundMe campaign didn't quite meet its target, I HAVE signed up for a seminar and will be heading to Providence, Rhode Island in just a couple of weeks, and I couldn't be more excited! Your support and encouragement in my pursuit of my CZT designation is very, very much appreciated, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are all wonderful! :)

Hi Laurel. I've recently shown a group about Zentangle and they've taken it by storm. It has been a point of pride for me recently. It has been so good for me, in fact, that I'd like to go to Rhode Island and become an instructor too. Being able to touch more lives like I have this one group would be awesome! I don't have any money at this moment, but I wanted to drop you a line to say hope you make enough money in time to go! If I get the chance, you can expect I'll be dropping a little money your way.

Hi, Laurel--I just ordered one of your bookmarks, and I'd like the initial "A" on it as a gift for a friend--it doesn't have to be the elaborate "A" you have above! I loved the one you did for me, so anything like that would be wonderful.

Rick and Maria live in Whitinsville, Mass. They had their first 6 seminars at a historic seminary just around the block from their house. When it closed, they wanted to find a place that was close to the original, both in geographical location and ambience. They found that in Providence, RI. Currently, they have no plans to teach them elsewhere, despite all of the requests. Best of luck in your campaign. Great idea. I co-wrote a book with a friend so she could have the funds to go to the training.

Yes, I believe the founders of Zentangle live in Providence, so that's where the main seminars are held. Thank you so much for your support, Elaine - I can't wait to meet you in person! :)

Hi Elaine! When I get to Providence I would LOVE to meet up with you! The seminars are all full for this year, so it'll probably be next year before I get there. If I'm able to earn the money sooner, though, I'll put my name on the wait list for one of this year's seminars and keep my fingers crossed!
