The Curious Cat in Temecula needs you!

Donation protected

Ladies and gents:

For those who don't know me, my name is Jessica Asbury, and I'm a 29-year-old graphic designer living in New York.

One year ago, my stepdad lost his sales job. While some opportunities have surfaced, it's been a long year of waiting and he and my mom have been living off their savings.

They have long talked about opening a business together. Those who've been to their home know the warm and inviting atmosphere they create "” a mixture of good conversation, my mom's excellent cooking and their spirit of generosity. All things that I think will make them successful in their dream endeavor to open a bookstore and cafe in Temecula, Calif.

Please help me help them make their dream a reality! They are well underway in the process of planning and location scouting, but they need initial operating capital to get things going.

Any donation amount is appreciated - every dollar counts!

I've asked them to include a message:

"We are Dan and Jackie. We have been married just shy of 25 years; like most people, we talked about and planned our future. We aren't rich, and we knew our retirement might be a working one. We didn't mind that. We are hard working people who just wanted to be together. We love books. We are passionate about reading, learning and exploring different points of view. We also love cooking good, homemade food from scratch. A cafe bookstore: The Curious Cat.

We're trying to make our dream a reality. Unemployed for a year, we find ourselves weary of the rejection that comes with age. The very qualities that one gains through experience are devalued because of how old we are. We hope to start our future now. We need help.

Our community has one large corporate bookstore. Diversity is not its strong suit (neither are its prepackaged sandwiches). As independent bookstore owners we hope to offer a wider variety of books and a different experience. Our tagline says it all, "Books-Food-Community."

We've spoken about our passion for the books and our love of good food. What do we mean by community?

A place where teens and kids feel welcomed.

Where old people (such as ourselves) find a pleasant and friendly atmosphere.

Where young mothers can gather with children.

The Curious Cat will participate with local schools through poetry slams, student art, and homework clubs.

A comfortable setting where our neighbors can relax with a glass of wine and good conversation.

A place where our customers leave feeling the same as the guests in our home do - comfortable, welcome and relaxed."

Thank you in advance to all who help support them. I will be sure to post updates and photos as they move forward.

Sincerely,

Jessica

NOTE: If you live out of state and wouldn't be able to partake of the in-store rewards, we will still send you the item from your chosen reward level and substitute the coffee and treat!
