Recently our neighbor's sons were both diagnosed with sever cases of E. Coli. The brothers Nash and Odin are 5 and 2 and are strong spirited and filled with love. The E. Coli infection that they have is know as a shiga toxin producing E. Coli . This toxin has led to a complication know as hemolytic uremic syndrome or HUS for Nash. This is a potential life threatening complication that has led to Nash being transferred from Dominican Hospital to Lucille Packard Children's Hospital. Both brothers have been transferred; Nash to the Pediatric ICU and Odin to the Pediatric floor. The parents are staying with both kids and are unable to work during this horrific experience.
The treatment for Nash's HUS so far has been a blood transfusion, platelet transfusion and he has undergone his first round of dialysis. He is in constant pain, but is staying strong. It is currently unknown how his body will react to these treatments, however the hope is that the dialysis will not only filter the blood, but it will give his kidneys a chance to rest. Kidney failure is a real concern as Nash fights his way through this sickness. Odin is under close watch by the doctors to monitor whether his infection will develop into HUS as well.
The funds raised through this campaign will help the family with monthly house hold bills as well as any other unexpected costs that arise throughout this nightmarish ordeal.
We are all optimistic that both Nash and Odin will make a full recovery, Nash already has all the sodas that he is not allowed to drink lined up in his hospital room for when he is better. He is also planning a trip to Arizona with his close friends to visit his amazing auntie Meg, and his recovery party at Zizzo's Coffee shop in Capitola.
This is a very sweet family and are going through a very rough time. Anything you can donate will help and be much appreciated. Thank you for reading and keep Nash, Odin, and their parents, Brittany and Joe, in your thoughts and prayers.

We had an amazing visit with Nash today! Helped him get his little body out of bed and moving. We got to share in laugher and joy, for which it’s been such a long time!! He’s getting stronger every day, hasn’t needed dialysis in 3 days, and is almost meeting his daily fluid intake! His body still needs support, but he’s getting there, slowly but surely! He’s starting to get feisty, which is always a good sign in patients, but it definitely makes for more of a struggle! Hoping to continue to see such improvements! We love you Nashy!!

Thank you all so much again for all the support. Odin has made it home!! yay. He is feeling good and is playing with all his neighborhood friends. Nash is improving slowly. He is not able to eat food!!!!!. He ate his chips that he was holding, and got to drink some of his sodas that he had lined up. He is still undergoing dialysis and it is unknown at this time when he will be able to come home. His parents are splitting time at home with Odin and at the hospital with Nash. Please continue to share their story and sent healing thoughts to the family.

Thanks for continuing to support our wonderful family!! I hope these updates help to keep them in your thoughts and prayers! Please continue to send good loving and healing energy and strength to them all!!

Brittany is thinking of bringing Odin home on Friday!!!!!! Keeping him cooped up in a hotel has been challenging and he really just wants to be home! Once he has 2 stool samples clear of E. Coli he can hang with his neighborhood crew again- I can’t wait!!

Nash’s condition changes on a daily basis, but the best news we’ve had in a long time is that he peed!!!!! That means his kidneys are trying to do some of the work they are supposed to do! He still is receiving a lot of medical interventions but we want to keep hope and healing as the focus for his future. Thanks for all of your support and strength to help this family through!
