Pit Stop meets Community Cats - Spay / Neuter!

$4,580 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 53 people in 2 months
Pit Stop meets Community Cats – Please help us to spay / neuter community pets in need!  Every donation will help save countless lives!

The Pit Stop program is a free spay / neuter program offered to the Paterson, NJ community to decrease the growing culture of Pit bull breeding and fighting.  We have recently implemented a Community Cats program that goes hand-in-hand with Pit Stop, offering a free spay / neuter program aimed at low income families to decrease the unintentional breeding and abandonment of cats.  Every $150 saves another dog, and every $75 saves another cat from a life of trauma.

This area is low income and is saturated with dog breeding and fighting, overwhelmingly with Pit bulls.  The number of stray and feral cats is shocking, as breeding is overwhelmingly unintentional and due to a lack of spay / neuter resources.  The lack of resources and humane education has created a growing and already large problem.

Pit bull puppies and kittens are handed out on the street or sold.  Many end up in animal control, and many more end up on the streets, tied in yards or involved in dog fighting (cats / kittens are sadly used as bait).  It has been our experience that very few are spayed or neutered.  The lack of spay / neuter also creates additional concerns medically and behaviorally causing families to surrender their pets or put them outside.

Many residents are open to spay / neuter options but are not actively seeking these options.  That is where WE come in.  Participants will have their pets picked up and brought to a veterinarian for a spay or neuter, as many residents do not have access to transportation.  RBARI will provide any other needed medical care, returning the pet with food and supplies to continue to build our relationship with the community.

The goal is to promote proper humane education and decrease breeding.  Over time our hope is to change the outlook of the community with regards to animal welfare.  This program will save hundreds of dogs and cats from a live of pain and suffering.

URGENT CASES!

We have not been able to reach our goal – and we need your help!

FIFTEEN cats are in desperate help of spay / neuter services before they reproduce more and  fall victim to angry neighbors.  These cats are located in Passaic and fed by good Samaritans that provide some relief from the suffering they overcome being homeless.  Please help us to spay / neuter these cats!  Every $55 saves one and countless babies from suffering.  These cats will have a better life and can stay under the radar from ill-intentioned neighbors if we keep the population small.  Seeing these cats suffering on the hot and cold days, without shelter, breaks our hearts.

URGENT! After the rabies clinic in Paterson, we have many requests for spay / neuter and can't keep up with funding! Please help us to spay / neuter and avoid unnecessary breeding, which sadly results in puppies being handed out, placed in dog fighting, abandoned at the pound and tied out in yards regardless of the weather.

Please help, so that babies like our sweet Atlas don't end up on the other end of a chain. His mother and siblings all sadly died during childbirth, and he has special needs and is still searching for a foster or forever home, 6 months later.

Providing free and low cost spay and neuter to owners who can’t afford it in under-served communities is the only way to truly get to the root of the homeless animal overpopulation problem. Spaying one dog or cat literally can save thousands of future generations of homeless animals from being born. This program has already made a huge difference in reducing the number of dogs we are seeing enter the shelter in Paterson (where we pull a large majority of our rescues) the last few years. We need more funding to continue! No matter how many dogs we pull into our rescue network, we will never be able to keep up with the constant stream of unwanted animals being born. Altering as many animals as possible is the first step in stopping the cycle.

Please support and share this important program that is near and dear to our hearts!
