Raising funds and praying for Wendy

We all know pleasant, positive and helpful people behind any community. Those who always seem to be part of the committee, who get things done. Wendy D. is just that person in our community.
We have all been touched by the vitality and warmth of our dear friend. If you do not know her well – Wendy volunteers big time in the school and the community while she cares part-time for a foster boy that has many serious medical conditions, and recently a newborn baby, all this while she raises her family as a single Mum. She is always busy helping friends, neighbours, kids, pets, and her family – daily! She is one of those people that makes you laugh but is also ready to fight alongside you.
Well, right now, as you may know, she needs your help in her fight.
Diagnosed 5 years ago with aggressive breast cancer, it was a big surprise to a women so young. She fought it off. Then, the cancer spread to her liver about 3 years ago. With good medical care and surgery, she fought that off too. Now that the cancer has appeared in her bones, another fight begins. Starting this week she will be undergoing surgery to insert a rod into her femur to strenthen her leg and then radiation following to try to stop the spread of the tumour, this will be her biggest battle yet.
She’s not alone in this journey. At home, she has a daughter, 20 who is working towards becoming a doctor and a 12 years old son who is looking forward to starting high school next year.
She’s also not alone in this journey because she has us, the community she’s supported for so long. And now we have an opportunity to give back.
Today, we are asking if you will donate funds to support Wendy and her kids. This will allow Wendy to focus her attention on fighting this cancer, on healing. We want to take away some worry of the day-to-day stress. She is not one to ever ask for anything and continues to support and help everyone around her. We want to give her something to dream about - to look forward to, something for herself and her children.
Funds will go foremost towards paying her living expenses and medical expenses not covered by Medicare. This, we hope, will allow for Wendy to cut down on her work hours as she supports her family while battling cancer. Our ultimate hope is twofold, that she can afford to take time off to heal, to be with her family and, funds permitting, take a trip to Hawaii with her kids, a life-long dream of Wendy’s.
When Wendy is ready, they can build more family memories away from all the daily treatments and stressors of life. Having this positive goal to aim for is huge for Wendy. It gives her and her kids something exciting to look forward to: a happy goal and eventually something happy to look back on.
Your donation will go directly to Wendy’s care and, generosity permitting, to a holiday. We would like to send her in March or April 2016 - funds, health, and weather permitting.
