Help Shiri Attend the Lambda Awards!

Hello! I'm Shiri Eisner, I'm a bi trans* disabled persn of color, and the author of Bi:Notes for a Bisexual Revolution. I have good news and bad news:
The good news is, my book has been nominated for a Lambda Literary Award and a Bisexual Book Award in the bisexual nonfiction category! I SO want to visit NYC to attend both ceremonies (taking place on May 31st and June 2nd, respectively) as well as give talks, readings, and book signings, and meet people, writers, and activists from the community. It is a rare opportunity for me to create new connections and promote my writing and activism!
The bad news is, I face serious challenges actually getting to NYC in time. The primary one is my chronic illness, fibromyalgia, which creates routine challenges for me in my daily life, including constant weakness, fatigue, and pain. Because of that, in order to survive a 12-hour flight from Tel-Aviv to New York I would need to be driven to the airport, use a wheel chair, and travel in business class to prevent long-term damage to my body (from lack of ample space and ability to lie flat), which has already happened to me in the past after a long bus ride. I would also need to be accompanied by my girlfriend, who is also my caretaker, as I am unable to travel independently. I also need a place to stay, as well as funds for food and transportation.
Being chronically ill also means that my ability to work for a living is very limited. Even with my monthly disability fare, I cannot afford this trip on my own.
I am trying to raise $10,000, which will go towards:
- Two $4,000 plane tickets for my partner/caretaker and I
- $1000 for two weeks in a hotel
- $1000 for two weeks of food, transportation, and emergency money
Please help me raise this money, so that I go to NYC, attend the ceremonies, and - fingers crossed - hopefully be there in the flesh to accept an award!
Please note: if I don't manage to raise the full amount, the donations will be used for paying my medical bills (for hyperbaric treatment). If you would not like your donation to be used for this purpose in case that happens, please let me know.
