Rashad's Start on New Life fund

I have three beautiful sons. All sons are wel active and love to play basketball. My oldest and middle son Rasheed works the YMCA helping with the younger youths. The baby son, Rashad is a graduate from Vatterott College.

On Monday, September 7, 2015 was a day I will never forget. As parents, we never want to receive a phone call about our children that would leave us with a heavy burden and just feeling of hurt and numbness. But on this day late afternoon, I was that parent that did receive that call. Florissant police department called and left a message to call them. Not sure as to the message that was left so I called the number back. When I reached someone, I was told that my sons were shot due to a robbery and both are in critical condition and I needed to get to Barnes Hospital. Upon arrival at Barnes, I was told that Rashad was shot in the back of his neck and the fragments of the bullet damaged his C-3 spine which has resulted to Rashad being paralyzed from mid chest down. He diagnosis is a C3 quadriplegic with right ventricular artery (VA) injury. Rashad will require a pacemaker to sustain his heart rate, vent support for the rest of his life. The bullet is still lodged in Rashad's neck and will not be removed as to not to cause any additional damage.

Rasheed was shot in his dominant right arm. His bullet lodges in the top of his right shoulder, requiring him to have multiple surgeries with two stents placed in his vein and artery. Rasheed is out the hospital, but will need extensive PT and OT.

Rashad is still currently in the hospital, and once stable enough, he will be transferred to a rehab hospital for a couple of months. Once Rashad is able to come home. I am going to need a lot of help with bringing Rashad home. I am going to need a van for Rashad chair and vent equipment to take him back and forth to his medical appointments. Right now I live in a small apartment, but now I am going to need to get a house to Rashad can have his own room for his medical bed and all his equipment.

My days consist of running up and down the highway from North County to the City, to West County everyday since all this happened to check on both my sons, as well as keep my job presently. I rely heavily on my family to assist when I'm unable to be there for the other. I had to take a FMLA from my job which has caused me to fall behind on billys that need to be paid along with my rent and everyday household needs.

This victim of violence on my two sons has changed my life tremendously. Every time the phone rings, I have to remember that I have one son at home and the other in the hospital. All three suspects have been arrested, Thank God!!!!!!. All three have history of  violent felony convictions. I feel like it is about time that the criminal justice system actually does what it is intended to do. I can't bare the fact of this happening to someone else babies.

I am in need of a van with a ramp for his wheelchair that he will need now to get back and forth to his medical appointments and his necessary needs his going to need now. I am a single Mom, trying to make the best of this situation as I can. I try and smile so I don't make on one else's day bad. I am reaching out on this Wedsite because I have come to where I don't know how I am going to leave. So I am hoping and praying that somone, anybody hears my cry and please reach out to help me. Anything will help us at this time. God Bless Everyone and Thank You for reading my story.
