Hello everyone, Mandi here, My dad gave me a letter he wrote on Sunday that he would like me to say on here. So here it goes:
Today is Sunday August 3rd and tomorrow I go back to work. I have no damage to my mind and body I am just fine. Its been a long wait for the OK from the doctors. Its finally here, tomorrow I will finally get my life back. Well I just have to thank all the THOUSANDS of people from all over teh world that gave me their love and support with there words and their donations. When I think of everyone that was there for me it brings me to tears to feel what I only can describe as love from strangers. I really don't know how to write my feelings in words to show what all of you people have made me feel, which was important, and special. I have NEVER felt so connected to so many people. Some of the get well cards from the elementary school, their words of a child but wisdom was the same as a grown adult. All were raising me above the wrong that was done to me. When the whole world is on your side its a great feeling. My side is that I stopped to help the kid that ran into the side of my truck, he would have died if i hit him with the front. We both have a lot to be thankful for. I do not use computers my daughter does. So that's why you don't hear from me more. I like to write more but its hard to write about things that I feel. But please with all my heart I want people to know every time I go over the support I have received I cry like a new born baby waiting to experience thier fullness of life. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I'll always remember all of you loving people. Thank you to Debbie Hughes who threw her body over mine to stop the crowd from killing me, she sure is a brave woman. Also, thank you to all the medical people that surrounded me. I notice people in the medical field are all angels here to make other peoples life continue. Without them, where would we go? Thank you to the people at St. Johns hospital, thank you to the people at DMC Rehab facility. Everything about what happen to me was worth it to feel the pure love of mankind in it's purist form. People are love, and I love you all. Thank you.
I need to clear the air on some things that have been said about my family. Last night a reporter from fox 2 reported a story about my brother implying that he stole fundraising money to go to the strip club. That is IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM TRUE! My brother has no access to any fundraising money, NONE AT ALL, my sister and I meet with the people hosting the fundraiser and let them know that I am in control of my dad's money being the oldest of the siblings. Nobody but myself and my lawyer can touch that money. Checks are made out to my fathers name or the trust fund itself. My brother was at winners bar for only about an hour on Saturday between 4-5pm so he wasn't there when everyone started showing up or any money was handed to anyone. I cannot believe they would air something like this and accuse him of something without any proof other then a women from the strip club saying he came from a fundraiser. THATS IT! I'm not saying it's right that he spent his unemployment check there or that he was there to begin with but to make these kind of accusations on my brother and bashing my family name with his poor choices is completely unfair. Every cent is protected and none of any type of donation has gone anywhere but the bank! We are waiting on Medicaid to respond as well as other crime victim programs for assistance. I've lost a lot of respect for fox 2 for reporting such garbage and the fact that my mother and myself asked that reporter to not air something like that. This is the last thing we need right now as if were not going through enough. I hope people believe me when I say that it was not fundraiser money and I hope this doesn't change how people feel about my dad's recovery. We love our father and wouldn't ever steal a dime from him.
Update on my dad's condition. On Friday April 25 a doctor from RIM rehab center in Detroit came to evaluate my dad to see if he was able to go to their institute. He was approved and accepted :) He will be transferred there sometime this week we were told hopefully tomorrow April 29th. RIM is one of the top rehab centers at DMC hospital that specializes in neurological damage and memory injuries. I am beyond excited to have him out of the ICU and into a setting where everyone is dedicated to his success. I hope with time there he will regain his personality and memories as well as motor skills. The recovery journey has begun and we are all hoping for the best. Please continue to send good vibes to our family, your support has been overwhelming and appreciated. Thank you all so very much.
Everyone has been asking us for an update on our dads condition. We are very grateful to all who have been sending cards with kind notes and prayers for him and our family. I have been putting off posting an update hoping that after the "next visit" I would have some better news. But days are going by and I don't have better news to share. He is still unable to distinguish reality from his delusions. It is hard to explain in words what he is talking about. And very sad for us to see him this way.
UPDATE ON MY DADS CONDITION:
He is off the ventilator and is able to breathe on his own. He is in and out of it with his memories. Sometimes he can look at me and remember who I am and other times he can't. Today when I asked him how old he is he said "I'm two years old" but he did know his name. He does keep saying "I don't want to die I'm sorry" and "please don't let me forget you" He also keeps flashing back to the assault screaming for "HELP" and "PLEASE GET THEM OFF ME" He didn't seem to know what happened to him or why he was in the hospital, but again it is way to early to tell. He is also on MANY pain medications which are causing him to be delirious. These are baby steps. He is able to wiggle is toes on command and answer yes or no questions. It's to soon to tell if he's going to have any memory loss or long term damage. The frontal lobe is what was affected the most and that is where his memories and personality are and this is a long road ahead but the end of the road will be worth it. It is so hard to see him like this. I will post if any other changes happen. Please continue to keep my father in your prayers and thoughts.
Also we have a P.O. Box for the Trust fund if you would like to mail a check please address the envelope S. Utash and send it to P.O. Box 761 Warren MI 48090-0761
Thank you all so much, your words mean more then you know.
Our dad is the same. We are sill waiting to hear his voice.
Detroit Mayor Duggan has helped set up a Candlelight Vigil at Little Rock Baptist Church 9000 Woodward Thursday April 10th at 7pm. If you are unable to join us, please light a candle with your loved ones and pray for our dads complete recovery.
Thank you all again for your thoughts, prayers and support.
My dad is the driver that accidently hit a boy with his truck, as he got out to see if the child was okay he was jumped by at least 11 people. He was rushed to the hospital barely surviving. He has been in a medically induced coma for almost a week and may suffer long term damage to his brain. My dad has no insurance and is still hospitalized. Please help our family raise money to pay his medical expenses. Mail donations to P.O. Box 761 Warren MI 48090
