WHY YOU SHOULD GIVE: my friend Simone is a beautiful person and an amazing mother. She's the human equivalent of being wrapped in a cozy quilt in front of a crackling fire with a mug of cocoa with, like, seventeen marshmallows. Her ex-husband, however, is an abusive terror, and he's attemping to use the family court system to, 1. Continue abusing their children (both physically and emotionally), and, 2. Financially ruin Simone. His years of purposefully-frivolous litigation have left Simone with few resources. She is desperate to keep her children safe. If you can afford a cup of coffee, you can afford to give Simone a few bucks. It's urgently needed and will help a lovely woman and her remarkable children escape the clutches of a manipulative, abusive jerkwad.
WHO IS SIMONE?: due to the fact that she's involved in a bitter, years-long series of court battles with her ex-husband, "Simone" is a pseudonym. However, the woman behind the pseudonym is one of my oldest and most-cherished friends. She radiates warmth and love. She's taught me so much about being a great mother and a decent human. Throughout her career, she's helped influence thousands of young people and shape her field (and thus the world) for the better.
HOW THIS MONEY WILL BE USED: several years ago, due to her then-husband's ongoing emotional and physical abuse, Simone asked for a divorce. Her husband was enraged and began a campaign of legal and financial manipulation and intimidation which has continued to this day. Simone has used every penny at her disposal to hire great lawyers and keep her children safe. However, lawyers are expensive, and that money has been exhausted. Every dollar you contribute will go towards Simone's legal fees. Any unused money will be donated to local domestic violence prevention groups.
WHEN THIS MONEY IS NEEDED: immediately. Simone's ex-husband is in the process of filing yet another suit against her in court. He explicitly intends to bankrupt her. This is the holiday season. 90% of us are spending money freely and frivolously.
