Lorraine was born in South Africa. She was part of the anti-Apartheid movement and dedicated her life to social justice and to bring about change. Lorraine was privileged to witness that transformation in 1994 in South Africa. Lorraine came to the US to continue her work as an educator in Social Work and social justice in 1995. She was professor at Western Michigan University, Radford University, Hawaii Pacific University and Simmons College. Lorraine has touched and transformed many lives internationally, loved by colleagues and students alike.

In early March of this year, Lorraine went to the doctor for hip pain, an MRI showed a malignant tumor. She was unexpectedly diagnosed with advanced 4th-stage metastasized breast cancer, with no prior history of illness. Within 4 weeks, it collapsed three vertebrae in the spine, caused the beginning of a spinal cord compression, resulting in severe mobility limitations. Lorraine  was hospitalized in March in South Africa. She was flown by family to the US for treatment in April, and hospitalized for oncological treatment, for more than 10 weeks in Portland, Oregon at Providence Cancer Institute, fighting for her life. In the past 5 months since her illness was first discovered, Lorraine has undergone a variety of life saving, urgent palliative treatment & care, including surgery, hormone cancer oral chemo medications, and radiation to the spine, brain and legs.

Due to late entry/immigration to the US, Lorraine has little Social Security retirement benefits accumulated and her personal funds for assisted living is severely limited. Lorraine is in immediate need of funding assistance necessary for medical assisted-living expenses. Funds will allow her a quality of life, while receiving 24/7 needed assisted medical care. Due to her traumatic, sudden and unexpected advanced-staged illness, she is in desperate need of any emotional/psychological support and financial funding available from family, friends, colleagues, loved ones, and extended community. We gratefully thank those in our extended community who have already graciously offered their time and therapeutic services at no cost.
