Hey everyone;
Thank you so much for looking at this. I think a little information about me would be a great start.
At 3 years old I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It was a really difficult time for my family but they always found a way to take care of me and my sisters. Aunts, uncles, and grandparents were helpful in watching siblings and cousins. Food schedules became strict and everything revolved around injections.
My parents were great about things being as normal as possible while keeping me active and healthy. For a while I even worked towards being in the military and excelling at the physical fitness. As a type 1, was I immediately dismissed but being active and healthy has always been a priority.
Even a common cold or stress requires focus and attention to avoid complications.
For a while now, I've been having seizures. This has caused me to lose employment and be unable to complete my final semester of school.
I have been cleared of epilepsy, which is amazing news! The inconsistency of my blood sugars have, however, caused me to have symptomatic seizures and increased syncope (fainting spells). Unlike a CGM, an alert dog would wake me during the night, alert me during the day, and contact the nearest person if I'm unresponsive.
This is important because overall, I will never have to worry about insurance covering continued supplies, issues with working, or anything of that nature. This is a great way for me to find a healthy and quality life. One that will be free of unnecessary medical complications and, even better, a life where others have peace of mind.
I will be obtaining a dog from the Diabetic Alert Dogs of America. www.DiabeticAlertDogsofAmerica.com
I would like to get the dog as soon as possible and any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Even the smallest contribution is one more thing off of my mind.
