Shower the People

Two summers ago my partner and I were in a Wal-Mart parking lot and ran into a woman we know who happened to be homeless. I went to greet her with a customary hug and she pulled away because she was ashamed she hadn't had a shower in two weeks. The woman broke down in tears and asked if we knew of a place she could shower. Sadly we didn't have an answer for her...
Out of this moment we spent a month researching different options that would be economically viable and long lasting to ensure we could fix this issue for our entire homeless community. We went to truck stops, recreation centers, fitness clubs... Any place that had a shower. None were able or willing to serve someone who is homeless.
The only solution we could come up was to build a "bathroom on wheels" and Shower the People was born. We purchased a used 15 passenger bus, gutted it, and started fundraising to have it professionally wrapped and a renovate the interior to be a bathroom just like in your home.
Which brings us to today!! We are putting the finishing touches on it and will be bringing it out this week for the first showers!
While the shower itself is very cheap, the extras like razors, feminine hygiene products, food, gas, maintenance, and insurance add a significant amount to the cost. All funds raised will be used to cover these costs and for the purchase of a dry flush toilet.
With help from our friends, family, churches, and you we can make sure our friends on the street can have a little slice of their dignity back!!
