Donald Michael Kraig - Medical Expenses
Many, many of you around the world have sent healing energies, magick and prayers. They are all appreciated and felt.
In order to help offset the bills, we're asking your help to raise funds for his medical bills.
Every donation helps! We have a few goodies to give away at specific levels of donations. But they're in limited quantities! So act fast before they run out!
It is with great sadness that I announce that Donald Michael Kraig took his last breaths last night (3/17/2014) and died. He has crossed over to Summerland and is finally no longer suffering. The type of cancer he had was just too aggressive for us to do any more treatments and his body finally gave way. He did not suffer. He simply slipped away in his sleep.
In lieu of flowers or cards, please consider donating to the fund to help offset medical expenses and, now, funeral expenses.
At a later date to be named, there will be a memorial service celebrating his life and what he meant to all of us.
Holly Allender Kraig
Thanks to you all for donating! Even more thanks for spreading the word about our need. We've hit 56% of our goal! WhooHOOO!!!
Thanks to Llewellyn for their support in donations of money and of BOOKS!!!! I've added even more of Don's books to the donation levels below.
For those of you who donated at a book or crocheted item level, I will be sending those out in the next few weeks. At the moment, this is a one woman show while I'm taking care of Don at home and taking care of everything else, so I'm moving a bit more slowly (imagine that!). I do have amazing family support! Thank the Gods for that!
If you have questions in the meantime, drop me an email here or at firstname.lastname@example.org. I'll do my best to reply in a timely manner.
Thanks again for your generous outpouring of support!
For those who will receive incentives, give me a couple of weeks to get them out to you.
There will be more incentives!
Thanks for spreading the word and, please, keep on spreading the word!
Love to you all from Don and Holly
Mr. Kraig's books have drastically altered the way that I see the world at a time when it was desperately needed. I learnt of his passing a few moments ago. I feel a profound regret at never having had the privilege of meeting him in person. Safe travels Mr. Kraig and thanks for the years of guidance as well as the much needed discipline, though sometimes excruciatingly painful both mentally and spiritually that your writings provided. You will be truly missed by the many solo students you've inspired.
While this is an old article, I never payed my respects. Mr. Kraig's book was an enormous influence on my life not in just his teaching style but content, rituals, and his own values to which I would adopt some as time went on. His death was the only one I truly mourned outside of the men I served with in combat. I'm glad I found, purchased and practiced what was in his book. Now that you've been released from this coil, I hope whatever your next life may be that is be as phenomenal as this one was.
Don, I still feel you near. Your teachings have influenced me deeply over the years. I wish we could have met. Somehow i feel our conversation wold have been full of laughs and heavy magickal sharing. Thank You for all you have done. You and Holly hold a special place in my heart. Blessed Be and Namaste, Wise One. You will forever be held in High esteem in my Soul.
Chic and I have cherished our friendship with Don since 1983. He was the person who helped us get published through Llewellyn with our first book and tarot deck back in 1990. He has been a leading light in the magical community for years and his written works, lectures, workshops, radio shows, and advice have helped countless people in the magical community. Don is family to us and I hope that everyone who has ever been spiritually enriched through Dons work will contribute and support him now.
Don means a lot for the occult community. His book Modern magic was one of my first books on this topic. Most likely for many others as well. Very inspiring and clear he mapped out how Magick works and how to do it. It's my sincere wish he recovers from this terrible disease. My prayers are with you Don and to Holly and the whole family. I keep on practicing for you Frater! In LVX. Much Love Peter
Hey Folks! Thanks for all your support! Don's resting comfortably and watching lots of great movies and TV shows. My amazing stepmom, Deb, is here helping me stay sane while taking care of Don. My sister, Chris, another amazing caretaker and person, was also here helping out this past week. Without them, I'd be lost! For those of you who do this professionally, I owe each of you much gratitude and hugs and kisses. Being a caretaker is possibly one of the toughest jobs I know, and you all do it with such grace that I am blown away! Blessed Be to the Caretakers and to the Momma Deb and Chris!
Dear Elysia Gallow, Thank you for the clarification. I am glad to hear Llewellyn does its part to help with the health care of its employees. This refelcts well on Llewellyn, as this is not always the case with American corporations. As a breadwinner classified as an "independent contractor" in the USA for 34 years running now, I am acutely aware of the plight of the American worker when it comes to adequate health care coverage. I do not think there are many in today's magickal community whose lives have not been touched by the writings of Donald Michael Kraig. In the Golden Dawn community, the outpouring of love and magickal healing in response to Frater Kraig's illness has been impressive. Old grudges have been set aside, and with them the terrible polarization that for decades has hobbled the Golden Dawn has all but vanished. Many outside our community still judge the Golden Dawn by the flame wars and legal battles of the past. They do not see the spirit of fraternity that is the true essence of the living Golden Dawn. Do sisters and brothers quarrel at times when growing up in any family? Of course. But at the end of the day, family bonds always triumph over any petty scuffles. May the Golden Dawn be judged not by the folly of the past, but for the fraternity and love that unites us today, as we embrace together a shining future with the Golden Dawn as a force for spiritual truth and liberation in the 21st Century. I urge you, Golden Dawn brothers and sisters - no matter what order you belong to - whether adept, initiate, self-initiate, or solitary practitioner ... ... to reach down into your hearts to pull forth even more love and magickal will for the healing of our stricken brother, Donald Michael Kraig ... .. and to reach down into your pocketbooks and help his family bear the terrible burden of crushing health care costs. David Griffin
To David Griffin I know you have a history of bad blood with Don and Llewellyn, but as his coworker and friend I wanted to speak up in response to your comment since he cant do so himself. Of course Llewellyn offers health insurance to all its employees, including Don. However the reality in America (which you must know about) is that health insurance only covers certain things; individuals are still responsible for many out-of-pocket expenses including covering the deductible, office visit co-pays, and prescription drug co-pays; besides medical bills many families are hobbled with extra expenses in transportation and housing for the duration of treatment, not to mention a loss in income when they are incapacitated (thats why companies like Aflac exists, because no amount of health coverage plus short-term disability insurance can cover everything); Don may be seeking complementary treatment in addition to insurance-covered allopathic Western care; and he and Holly should be able to cover these expenses in any way they see fit. I think its great that the community is rallying around them in their time of need and hope you can, too.
Don was a very good friend to me when I needed one in Minnesota in the early 90's. I wish I could do more financially to help . Don is in my prayers and my thoughts. I am sending healing energies and lots and lots of Angels to take care of him! We love you, Don!
Does Llewellyn not provide health insurance for its acquisitions editors? Clearly the donations by Llewellyn and the Weschke's are extremely laudable, yet this situation does indeed beg he question of the sort of health insurance Llewellyn provided those who work so intimately with them for so long as Donald Michael Kraig has.
I wish I had something to give you my friend to help you with your medical expenses. All I can offer you is my words of hope. I began my journey as a Pagan with your books. They have helped me more than you will ever know. I am a Cancer survivor. This battle maybe hard and strenuous, but persevere and don't lose hope. May the Goddess and God infuse your soul with love and light! Blessed Be!
