Help Eric fight cancer

$7,775 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 72 people in 11 months
In April Eric Lendrum was diagnosed with cancer.   Eric is 26 years old and worked full time until his diagnosis in april.  Eric and his wife abby have 2 beautiful children ages  2 and 3.    After 3 biopsies they determined he had synovial sarcoma.   He has multiple tumors with the largest one taking over his entire left lung.   He has had multiple complications with blood clots and multiple strokes.    Eric  currently  is undergoing inpatient chemotherapy 5 days every 3 weeks.   The treatment is expected to be a long and extensive process with the outcome at this time unknown.   They have been traveling to and from pittsburgh frequently for testing, treatments, and doctors appointments.      Currently his doctors are referring him to a specialist out of state to assist in determining the next steps to take.
We would appreciate any support to help this young family with daily bills, medical expenses, travel expenses with his treatments (including lodging and gas).
We are thankful for all of the support this family has already received and all of the prayers.  We ask for continued prayers that they are able to proceed with the treatments and find the best course of action for Eric to win this battle.

So this may be the hardest update to type so far. As we have said before his current chemo is not working so they are going to start an oral chemo medication. A couple of weeks ago they had found a new spot on his liver. He was becoming very thirsty and they were worried about his pituitary gland and decided to have us come to pittsburgh for a brain MRI on tuesday night. He has been there ever since. The pituitary looks good. However the cancer has metastasized to his brain as well. While this is not what anyone wanted to hear the fight continues. He will be beginning radiation in addition to the oral chemotherapy. We ask that you continue to keep Eric, abby and the kids in your prayers as well as all of the doctors and staff that are working so hard to fight this battle with us. We couldn't ask for him to have better care while he is away from home. We will keep everyone updated as best we can as we move forward in this journey.

Update: Eric's lab work continues to be off however is improving now. They did several scans which were not what we had hoped for. His tumors have began to grow again and he has several new small spots that were not present before. The doctors feel that the current chemo is not working at this time and have decided to change the plan to an immunotherapy. Before he can begin this his lab work needs to get back to normal and insurance has to approve. So we pray that this goes smoothly. While this is not the news we were hoping for we are encouraged with the fact that there are other options as we move forward. In addition the new treatment will allow him to not have to be admitted to the hospital for 5 days every 3 weeks so more time with the family will be a welcome change. Thank you for all of the love and prayers.

We wanted to post another update for those who may not be on erics page. We did go to Dana Farber Institute. So far they have agreed with everything that has been sone so that is a comfort. He did have to stop one of the cancer medications. This is very toxic and he is reaching the lifetime limit. We are going with a lesser chemotherapy at this time and will follow up with additional scans to make sure the tumors continue to shrink or at least not grow. He has had to put his last round of chemotherapy on hold due to eric having a fever and cold but hopefully he will get back on track monday. They are excited about several clinical trials that he may or may not qualify for so in the meantime we have to hope that the cancer does not worsen with having to have less chemotherapy medications and to hope that once everything is in place for the clinical trials he qualifies and we are able to find the funding. so far we have been very blessed. There are really no words to express how grateful we are for the support and prayer over the past 6 months. Please continue to keep eric abby and the babies in your prayers. As with anything, we are taking this one day at a time.

UPDATE: We previously stated that the doctors wanted Eric to be seen out of state but have kept the details quiet until things had been arranged and eric had been accepted at the facility. So with that being said the doctors want eric to be seen at the Dana farber Cancer Institute in Boston . We are so happy to say he has been accepted there for a consult. We will be flying to Boston on august 28th to see a leading sarcoma specialist. This facility is known for research in cancer and has many clinical trials in all areas and in sarcomas in particular. Eric's tumors have all shrunk and he is doing well with the chemo regimen he is on however it is a strong combination and one of the medications has a limit of which eric is quickly reaching the maximum he can have. The Doctors in pittsburgh are hoping that the doctors there can give recommendations for ongoing treatments or clinical trial he may qualify for. This facility is out of network and he does not have coverage. They have sent information for the insurance to see if they will authorize his visit however that is unclear at this time. We have discussed this at length and have made the decision to follow through with the referral despite it likely being out of pocket. We are not willing to let financial reasons be a deterrent to explore every opportunity and ability to continue this fight. " Whatever it takes" we will do. Thank you to everyone for your support, love and prayers. We will keep everyone updated.
