Tornado damage

Donation protected

Yesterday, on September 21st, it was a devastating day for many individuals in Gatineau, as a EF-2 category tornado struck, destroying many homes and rendering countless people without a house to return to.
This includes my parents, which is why I am making this GoFundMe.
As much as I am trying to house them for the meanwhile, I know realistically living in a one bedroom apartment with a now added (5) more individuals is just not a good solution.

My parents had no housing insurance, they have absolutely no help from any outside source except what they can find themselves and I'm sure they aren't the only one's in this predicament.
If you are unaware of the neighborhood, it's a poor district with a lot of low income housing. The fact that the tornado struck in exactly this spot is what makes it even more devastating, as this neighborhood was a lot of people's last hope. With almost every other building now in closed condition, waiting to be demolished or abandoned it has left such a huge impact on those effected.

The new's isn't showcasing what the damage was like on the Gatineau side as much as Ontario, but I can tell you it's much more severe. Some places along Mont-bleu looks more like a war zone then a natural disaster.

As for this fundraiser, I am seeking at least a few months rent worth of money, as my parents have to completely buy everything new. All of their furnishings were destroyed and they only escaped with the clothes on their backs.
I've started it at 2k but I'm sincerely hoping it surpasses that. I can only do so much alone other then offer temporary shelter.

For things you can do help if you are unable to donate, please consider:

-Spreading the message of those effected

-Volunteering, anyone who wants to assist with relief efforts is asked to contact the Canadian Red Cross Society at 1-800-363-7305.

-Donating, you can donate directly to the Canadian Red Cross Society as well, or call them and ask what is currently needed. I also urge people to view for private fundraisers, as relief efforts only allow a (3) day maximum stay until residents need to figure out what to do on their own.

As for my parents situation, any spare money you can offer, even if it's only dollars, is eternally grateful.
The first priority is finding them a new house, which we are constantly on the look for. Once a new house has been found, if you are willing to continue to help, furnishings (basic necessities such as stove / oven / couch / beds ect.) would be a big help. We have nothing but our lives and our animals. We are thankful for that, as many have lost much more.

Thank you so much for reading this and spreading the message. We are not the only one's who have suffered, and who will continue to. I hope everyone finds what they need, the community has to be strong when disasters like this strike.
