Aunt Gertie’s Funeral

My aunt was dropped by her live-in nurse about a week ago. This broke her hip and she was left in pain. The nurse at first tried to cover up the fact she dropped Gertie, but finally confessed after my aunt was hospitalized for a stroke. In Jamaica, there are only three hospitals within her area of Jamaica, Montego Bay. Only one of them is public and affordable to the natives. With this condition, my aunt will be in need of hip surgery. At that hospital in Jamaica, they only do hip surgery 1-2 times a month. There is a large queue for hip surgery and it may be months before my aunt can get medical attention. The hospitals on the island are not as advanced as American ones. Every family member of ours that had a serious illness went into that hospital, then never made it out. Our largest concern at this moment in time is the lack of proper sedation to much aunt while she experiences excruciating pain. Our biggest fear is that she will get another sickness due to her weakened immune system as her 89 year old body tries heal this bone. The reason we are trying to raise this money is so that we can fly my aunt to a place that we feel will give her the best medical care available to her. We are aware of her delicate age and hope that she will be in good hands to live comfortably for the rest of her life. Please, even if it is just a small amount, contribute to this cause. All proceeds will be going towards the betterment of my aunt’s chance to live a full and healthy life until the end.
