Help My Newborn Puppy!

Donation protected
My name is Katie. I’m 23 years old and I’m the owner and founder of Montalvo GSD Kennels. I started raising German Shepherds about 2 years ago. German Shepherds are an extremely versatile dog breed and have truly captivated my heart since I was a little girl. Their drive, intensity, loyalty is just amazing. German Shepherds can be trained in SO many avenues to help humans. Whether it’s working as Police K9s, Therapy Dogs, Narcotic Detection, Search and Rescue, Service Animals for those with different illnesses and disabilities and so much more.

They. Do. It. All.

These are some of the reasons I started to responsibly breed these animals. I wanted to carefully protect this amazing breed.

So I bought a nice female, already pregnant, from a breeder in Kentucky. She’s exactly what I look for in the breed and is the start to my own precious bloodlines. I named her Zara, which means “princess” in Russian.

I also got things prepared for her. Including completely renovating my barn just for her and the soon to be puppies to keep them safe and comfortable. New insulation, walls, waterproof baseboard, window, doggie door, whelping box, vinyl flooring, etc. I did have a Whelping/Birthing setup in my home already but decided to make something even better for her and the soon to be puppies. We were ready.

2 months later, on Sunday February 17th, Zara gave birth to 3 beautiful, large puppies. Her labor last more than 24 hours. When the last puppy was born, the only male, he passed away immediately. I tried CPR, Chest Compressions, rubbing him vigorously with a towel, anything to get him breathing. He was gone instantly. Nothing I could do to save him.

But we had 2 healthy females. Doing well. Nursing good. Thriving.

On Wednesday, February 20th, I found one of the females almost lifeless. Cold to the touch, barely breathing. She cried only once, faintly. I rushed Both her and her sister to the vet immediately. The vet tried for several hours to revive her, get her warm. Nothing.

I lost my second puppy. She was gone.

I now only have 1 female. She has to be kept away from her mother by vets orders. The only time Zara sees her puppy is at feeding time. I’m now up every 2-3 hours, without breaks to feed and clean this puppy. Keeping her warm next to my bed. I’m raising her myself. She’s all I have left. The only chance of a future with Montalvo Kennels.

Her name is Adira. It means strong in Hebrew. She’s my little fighter.

Between the emergency vet visits, supplies for my newly expanded dog barn, and other expenses, I’m at loss. Have nothing to my name. I work only part time so I can focus on my volunteer work and my dogs.

If I reach my goal, I will donate 10% of the funds to my local NO KILL animal shelter in Owensboro, KY to help other animals in need. The rest of the money will only be used to pay for vet bills and to cover the expenses that I’m having to pay for this newborn puppy.

I’m not usually one to ask for help. But if you could support Adira by making a donation and then sharing this, I would greatly appreciate it. I know that money can be tight, so please know that even $1 helps me get closer to my goal!
