Hello everyone,
This is my friend, Steve Goff! I met him a couple of months ago at Powell Bart Station in San Francisco. I must be honest with you: My first impression of Steve Goff was nothing special. "Just another homeless guy," I thought. Nothing special right? After all, he's just another guy standing at Powell station begging for change.
But wait, he's not begging! He's neither asking nor pleading for anything. He's simply standing there, greeting everyone walking by. "Hello young Lady," he says. "Have a good day Sir!" "How about a smile?" No cup in his hand. No sign asking for change. It's just him, wishing those who walk by to have a nice day.
To be honest, the fact that Steve wasn't asking for any sort of assistance at all perplexed me. When I asked him why he wouldn't ask those walking past him for help, his exact words were, "I'll be a fool to think that any one owes me anything."
I was shocked by his response. I found it very humbling for a man who has nothing (no home, no money, and most days have no food to eat) to spend his day wishing those who walked by to have a nice day. It turns out that I had to look at him rather than through him to notice his kind heartedness.
With that being said, my friends, Steve needs a home. He's exhausted all available options in San Francisco to assist him with housing but he ends up on the backburner or year long waiting list. I know all of this because I've stepped in on many occasions making phone calls and emailing different organizations on his behalf.
Understandably, he is tired of sleeping on the streets of San Francisco. Steve wants a second chance at fulfilling his goals and becoming a productive member of society. Previously, he was a licensed big rig driver. He would like to get his license back, find a job, and earn housing of his own. This $5000 will jump start his life by providing food, housing, and the other necessities of daily living.
This is our last resort. We need you, the people, to help Steve to get a home.
