We don't have physical evidence. We only have the word of our kiddo. This situation makes me concerned that there isn't justice for kids. If we don't get a lawyer, and biomom's parents (who have lots of money) get biomom and attourney we could lose the most important thing in the world to us.
Since the abuse happened in Colorado, it would be out of the Hanna Marshall's jurisdiction. The custody case isn't in Wyoming. It is in Colorado where the divorce happened. The lawyers in Fort Collins want a $7500 retainer. If we had physical evidence, this would have been much easier. We trust our little one.
There has GOT to be a child welfare service that will act on behalf of your step daughter regardless of her age. You also need to report this to the authorities. You need to have it documented. Every single time she tells you the boyfriend hurt her you go to a 3rd party and report it. The more unbiased documentation you have, the better. If you can get her into a doctor to check for bruising, scratches etc...have pictures taken, plus have it documented EVEN better!! I know this seems extreme but if you want to save your step daughter from trauma and harm this is the most effective way. There are also possible lawyers that will work pro-bono for you. Check with local child services and local law schools. I hope some of this helps.
This is a very real, very dire situation, verified by me. It sucks that it takes money to keep a child safe, but that's our system. Please donate if you can, even small amounts add up quickly, and if everyone shares this fundraiser on their pages (facebook, twitter, pinterest, etc.) more eyes will see it. Thanks!
