Thalia Tellez fell victim to John E. Gibbs, a sexual predator known for preying on young adolescent and teenage girls. He lured her into believing that he was someone else. Unfortunately, nowadays, anyone can hide behind a computer screen. Once he obtained her trust, he lured her into his house where he provided drugs and then most likely held her against her will. Since it is an ongoing investigation, all the details have not fully been disclosed by the authorities. All we really know is that our daughter is dead and that there are many unanswered questions.
We have lost a beautiful person. Thalia should be looking through her college acceptance letters, and instead we are planning her funeral. We are asking for your help to cover funeral expenses. We will greatly appreciate any financial help. If you cannot donate, please at least share to let other parents be aware that there are wolves in sheep’s clothing among us. Unfortunately for us as parents, we were unaware that anyone can create a profile or respond on Craigslist without a proper criminal background check.
To have known Thalia was to have known a beautiful loving caring daughter, a big sister, a friend and someone to have a shoulder to cry on. Her life was cut short by someone that should have never been allowed in society. Our hearts are torn, but we will make justice to her memory. We will advocate to bring awareness and to let society know about these sexual predators in our neighborhoods. We are making it our mission, in Thalia's name, so that these perpetrators are not allowed to freely create online profiles to lure young women the way that Thalia was.
The wake will be held this Sunday January 24th at Casey Laskowski Funeral Home (4540 W Diversey Ave., Chicago, IL 60639) from 4:00 to 9:00 pm. On Monday at 9:00 am we will be meeting there to say our final goodbyes followed by a procession around 10:00 am to Fairview Memorial (900 N Wolf Rd., Northlake, IL 60164) where it will be her final resting place.
