Hanna, Mom, & Dad together ❤️ long term care

Donation protected

Hanna Jane Hazen came into the world on June 15th,  2019. What a joy!

Hanna’s mom, Janelle, planned on being induced and knowingly, Hanna decided she would give Janelle a break and come naturally instead :) Everything aligned and this was one of the happiest days of Janelle and Mike’s lives.

Hanna is extraordinary and Janelle and Mike’s rainbow baby. Her arrival has been preceded with deep love, excitement, and anticipation.

From the get go, her beauty and vitality were exceptional.

All pre and post natal tests showed Hanna to be a healthy baby, ready to go home with mom and dad.

This abruptly changed after only 4 hours of being home. This is when Janelle and Mike noticed Hanna was unresponsive and quickly called 911.  Upon arrival, the EMS told them that Hanna had dangerously low blood sugar levels and by the time they reached Albany Medical Center, she was hypothermic.

For two days, doctors tried to figure out why her glucose levels had dropped so low.

As this was happening, Hanna began having seizures and it was noted that she had an extremely high level of ammonia in her blood which is toxic to the brain.

Hanna was then transported to the Boston Children’s Hospital  (BCH) where doctors have worked tirelessly to diagnose her with long chain CPT2, one of the rarest and most severe metabolic diseases known to mankind.

With only 18 neonatal cases reported in the US to date, there are few resources, support, or information available online other than negative and unfortunate stories of children like Hanna, who did not survive.

This was heartbreaking news for Janelle and Mike, but doctors encouraged them to avoid reading all of this information as the best specialist doctors in the world are around Hanna 24/7.

Since being at BCH, Hanna has persisted. There is hope!

With the support and expertise of the best doctors in the world and advanced technology and medicine, her ammonia levels have remained stable.

Doctors have noted that her recovery from her episode thus far is extraordinary and she is presently on the long path to making it back home with mom, dad and her doggy brother Brody.

To get Hanna stable enough to go back home, they will need to spend extended time at the Boston Children’s Hospital. Hanna will require a specialized diet for life, and close follow up with the doctors at BCH to avoid overworking her strong but vulnerable heart.

Janelle, Mike, and Hanna will likely be at Boston’s Children Hospital for the next month, if not longer and we would like to keep this family together for as long as Hanna needs to be at BCH.

To make this possible, Janelle and Mike will have to stay in Boston. This is a huge financial burden that includes work leave, medical bills, food, and lodging for this family as their home is in Upstate New York.

As a supporter, your donation will go directly to keeping Janelle, Mike and Hanna together and contributing to their journey of hope and persistence.

Any donation will help, but if you’re unable to provide support monetarily, please send all your love, prayers and positive thoughts their way.

Hanna is truly a unicorn; she’s one of a kind! Janelle and Mike look forward to you all meeting her.
