Post 411 Building Renovations

$250,000 goal

Campaign created 3 months ago
On September 11, 1919, the American Legion Rusy Bohm Post 411, in Islip, New York, held its first meeting. As a Charter Post for the American Legion, we received our Congressional Charter on May 8, 1923 and have been serving our community for nearly 100 years. Our current Membership Ranks include Veterans who served during WWII and all subsequent conflicts up to and including the current War on Terror. American Legion Post 411 is Dedicated and Named in the Memory of 2 Islip, New York, U.S. Army Veterans:

Pvt. Joseph Rusy who was Killed in Action in WWI participating in a raiding party near Thaicourt, France on September 22, 1918.

and

Pvt. Emil J. Bohm who was Killed in Action in WWI during fighting in the Argonnes Forest, France on September 27, 1918.

We collaborate with and support numerous other Veterans Organizations. Several of them are: AM VETS, The Marine Corp League, DAV, Vietnam Veterans of America, Project 9 Line, our local Veterans Hospital and Veterans Home.

In our Community, we support an array of programs and functions such as: Boys and Girls State for Local High School Juniors, Scholarships for Local High School Seniors, Flag Day Ceremonies at our Local Schools, Community Breakfasts and Dinners, we recognize and honor First Responders with a Law & Order Dinner to celebrate their outstanding contributions to our community. We sponsor community functions such as: Emergency Preparedness, Flu & Pneumonia Shots, Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies, Veterans Day Ceremonies, 9-11 Ceremonies, Veteran’s Award Ceremonies, Scout Troops, and many others.

Our current Post Building, which we have occupied since 1932, needs some significant repairs. We are a very active Post hosting various Veterans and Community functions throughout the year and our Post is showing signs of the wear and tear.

We do not receive any government or corporate financial assistance. We survive on the generous donations of the membership, the community we serve and through the rental of our hall.

We are a Non-Profit Organization and distribute the donations we receive back into our community. Some organizations we support with our donations are: Other Veterans Organizations, Local High School Scholarships, Boy’s and Girl’s State Attendees, and to pay our monthly expenses. Living in one of the highest costs of living areas of the country, we don’t have much left over for major renovations. We repair systems as they fail to keep them operating.

Many of the Infrastructure Systems are original, dating back to 1932. Some of the Projects that we sorely need to complete are: New Roof and structural support repairs, Chimney Repairs, HVAC Systems, Plumbing Systems, Rest Rooms, Electrical & Lighting Systems, Flooring, Walls, Ceiling and Kitchen. We are striving to use Energy Efficient-Green Technology wherever we can.

We are asking for your generous support to raise at least $250,000 to renovate our post so we may continue to serve our community for many years to come.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and if you are so inclined, your generous donation will be very much appreciated.
