Maria’s Fight With Idiopathic Subglottic Stenosis

$4,071 of $20,000 goal

Raised by 93 people in 8 months
This time last year I was pregnant with my first child, my mum Maria’s first grandchild and was away on holidays when I got the phone call saying ‘your mum needs emergency surgery, she has a problem with her throat and can’t breath’. My mum Maria found out she had Idiopathic Subglottic Stenosis; a condition where an inflammatory process causes progressive narrowing of the airway to the point of not being able to breath. Since then she has had 2 surgeries and a 3rd one due just this year to keep her airway open enough to breath. We went in for her regular check up just the other day and the surgeon said it’s become very aggressive and grown back at a faster rate of 70% you will need another surgery, seeing the look in my mums eyes just broke my heart. Can’t the surgery wait until after Christmas she said, and the doctor replied no you won’t last that long without surgery. That’s when it hit me that my mum needs help, she needs to go see a specialist down south or overseas that specialises in Idiopathic Subglottic Stenosis. She needs help to fight this life long condition, and to be able to see her first grandson grow up. I’ve started this fund unbeknown to her, in hopes that I can raise enough money to send her to see the specialist she desperately needs to see and to help take away her financial burden at this time. Any help could greatly change our families life. Please help me give back to the women who has sacrificed so much for me. Thank you all xx

Mums surgery went well. She’s in a lot of pain but feeling as good as can be expected. Unfortunately she needs another surgery in 6 weeks time. Such a strong inspirational women.

Just a quick update on mums progress. We’ve had to come down to Brisbane and she now has a new team of specialists. We caught up with the specialist today who has labeled her as a category 1 and booked her in for another big surgery in a couple of weeks (bad news) :( They will be trialling some new techniques here using a laser and some steroid treatments. She will then require a series of steroid injections directly into her windpipe under general anaesthetic every 4 weeks. It’s been a horrible ordeal for mum with no sign of things easing up for her anytime soon. Hoping and praying for a positive outcome and a good year ahead! Please don’t forget to continue sharing my campaign for mum, every little bit helps more than words can express. Thank you all so so much for all your support and kindness so far. Jess xxx

Mum went in for her surgery to open up her airway, and things took a nasty turn for the worst. She was placed into an induced coma and on life support. She will be ok but it will be a long road to recovery, only for her to potentially need another surgery to open the airway again in the near future. This will be on going for life.

Please please continue to share my go fund me campaign, and donate if you are in a position to do so. Thank you all so much for the support so far, it means more than you’ll ever know ❤️
