Banning Family Fire Relief Fund

We could really use your help!

Tim and his 15 year old son Cole Banning were long time residents of Paradise before November 8th’s “Camp Fire”. The events of this disaster led to them losing everything, including their home and almost all personal possessions.

Cole, an aspiring member of the Paradise High School baseball team, is a sophomore playing at varsity level with dreams of attending Sacramento State and playing ball there. The fire claimed all of Cole’s equipment when it engulfed their home.

When his father Tim was asked what he needed to start rebuilding their lives, he could only think of Cole and returning him to normalcy amidst all the chaos.

“I was saving for a car since he’s almost sixteen. I guess that will have to wait. We lost all of his baseball equipment. I also just remodeled his room and I got it right. He was so stoked about his new bed. All gone. He splits time between my house and his mother Amy’s house, but they too lost everything in the fire. We got out with our lives and now I just want Cole to get back to playing ball, school and a normal life,” said Tim.

When they got the call to evacuate, Tim was at work and Cole at school. Cole was immediately evacuated with school resources. Tim rushed home to see that the flames were already on the hillside behind the house. He rushed to pack a small suitcase with a few clothes, grab Cole’s laptop and some family photos when he realized the flames were already in the neighbor’s yard. He estimated he had a few moments to throw his and his son’s surfboards on the roof rack of the car and bolt.

On the road, Tim described the experience as apocalyptic. Flames were on either side of the road and the air was hot. People were abandoning their cars and running. Others were driving on the sidewalk. Thinking he might not make it, he sent a text to Cole, “I love you”.

Regardless of the status of home, there is no home for Tim and Cole to go home to. Their pride won’t let them admit it, but help is needed.

We started this fundraiser because Tim wanted to put Cole first. He wants Cole to be able to embrace a new normal as quickly as possible... but Tim also needs us. We can’t begin to understand what they are going through but we can help.

We’re starting with a modest goal of $10,000 but damages extend well beyond that. Tim and Cole need us and so many of you are asking how you can help. This is it. Donate. Share. Asking for help is never easy. Donating is. So we’re going to help.

Thank you, so much, for your support.
