Support inner city girls basketball

Donation protected
One of my best friends accepted her first varsity head coaching job this year at an inner-city high school in Indianapolis.  I decided to "take a year off" from coaching, but told her I would help by volunteering a few days a week...

What an eye-opening experience!

At the beginning of the season, there were planned donations to help pay for basketball shoes, socks, and sweats.  Unfortunately, these donations never arrived.

Last night, the team played their first game and the girls were focused and prepared to play a great game.  We learned more about our strengths as a team and our areas of improvement moving forward this season.

After the game, two players came up to me and said their toes were bleeding because of their shoes.  Some of the other players walked out to the bus in t-shirts because they did not have a sweatshirt or jacket when it was a chilly 40 degrees outside.

The team has improved tremendously since day one and continues to display the desire to become the best team and individuals they can be this season.  Additionally, these ladies work hard in the classroom. They attend study tables after school sacrificing practice time in order to succeed in the classroom.  They deserve to have the same opportunities and equipment other schools have in order to be a successful team.  We want them to feel proud to represent themselves and their school.

Our end goal with these amazing young ladies goes much deeper than shoes and sweats.  Basketball (and sports in general) provides the opportunity for high schoolers to learn and grow at such a pivotal time in their lives.  We hope by supporting our girls and providing them with proper attire, we can foster a relationship which instills integrity, respect, perseverance, self-esteem, and positive attitudes they can use to be successful for the rest of their lives.

Thank you for time and interest.  We (the coaches) and the girls truly appreciate your support.

UPDATE:
The shoe rep came to practice on Monday night. The girls were fit for sizes and will get their shoes Thursday at practice!

A big thank you to Kim Lauck, who is handling the financial side of things with the shoe rep and everything on the back end in regards to the donations.

It is truly amazing how much we can accomplish if everyone helps out. It's unbelievable everything that has been achieved in just a few days by the help of so many individuals!
