Sade Moves to NYC, Starts MFA

I'm getting ready to begin this new part of my life. But I kind of have to get to New York first. I'll be starting my first year at Pratt's MFA for Creative Writing and Activism August 24. I need to move myself and all the things I can't bear to part with to Brooklyn before classes start. The easiest way to do that would be to make a drive from Indiana (where I live now) to New York (where I'll be living indefinitely). Since I don't have a car of my own I'm hoping to raise enough money to rent a car, pack it with my meager possessions and hit the road. The campaign goal I listed is a rough estimate to cover the rental for an SUV as well as gas and food along the way. When I get to New York I'll be able to stay with friends until my student loan is disbursed in September and I can pay rent on my own place. I hope that I can raise more than my goal to help cushion those two weeks to a month without a steady income but my first priority is getting there. Though I'm assuming most people who wind up on this campaign will actually know me, I'm a poet and an artist. My first book of poetry, Dream Machine, was published last fall. This summer I've had the exquisite pleasure of writing a column at Real Pants called Lonely Britches. This move means I'll be leaving my post as Master Artist with Silk Creations, a collective of women silk painters here in South Bend. I'm incredible at what I do and I've worked like you wouldn't believe to reach this place in my life. So give what you can. I know magic can happen. The inscription inside of my Notre Dame class ring reads "So landete die Gottin" It's a line from Rilke's Duino Elegies which translates to, "The goddess has arrived." I write things, I create things that touch people, that move them deeply. I want to continue to do so and I need your help.
