#TeamEmber, Beating APlastic Anemia

I’m sure many of you have read similar stories to mine. I’ve read these stories over and over and couldn’t imagine the pain, anxiety, stress, and grief these families go through until it happened to use. We have experience it all within the last few months. My granddaughter Ember, who is a typical four year old started bruising and within a week she was admitted to Children’s Hospital and soon after that diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. She would require a Bone Marrow transplant and a lengthy stay at Children’s. Since May 19th, Ember has been in Children’s and has gone through way more than anyone should have to endure, especially for an four year old. We have had our fair share of set backs, fighting infections, gallbladder removal, and chemo delays. After two months, she finally had her Bone Marrow transplant on October 1st she had 5 bags of new cells. We are hopeful that her body reacts in a positive way and will officially know on October 31st If her body accepts the donor cells. Our stay at Children’s will be until the end of January or beginning of February. I have never been one to ask for donations, as myself and Ember’s grandfather have been able to provide for her and her brother. However, with Ember’s extensive stay and never leaving her side I have had to leave my job for the moment and her grandfather has had to miss work. We have used all we had saved and many of our bills have gone to the side as Ember and her health is our top priority. Ember requires lots of different medications and some are not covered under insurance. Her grandfather and I are paying for those out of pocket and our finances are racking up.
