Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. On Friday Sept 21,2018 around 7:40pm my wife Julianne Day began having abnormal bleeding. She was 36 weeks pregnant at this time. I grabbed our 2 daughters, loaded them into the car and rushed to the ER.  The doctors decided immediately that an emergency c section needed to happen, and it needed to happen quickly. Jude Wilson Day was born prematurely on Friday September 21, 2018 at 8:30 pm. Both my wife and my son’s life were on the line that night. Thanks to an amazing crew of doctors and nurses that all stepped up and worked as fast as possible, they are both still here with us. Jude had to be recessitated at birth, and was without oxygen for a period of time.   Because of this,  he was transported to Savannah Memorial into the  Neonatal unit.  Upon arrival he began treatment for possible Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, or HIE. “Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy is the brain injury caused by oxygen deprivation to the brain, also commonly known as intrapartum asphyxia. The newborn’s body can compensate for brief periods of depleted oxygen, but if the asphyxia lasts too long, brain tissue is destroyed. Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy due to fetal or neonatal asphyxia is a leading cause of death or severe impairment among infants. (https://www.birthinjuryguide.org/birth-injury/types/hypoxic-ischemic-encephalopathy-hie/)” He also had complications with breathing, due to his lungs not being fully developed.  He has been in the neonatal unit since Sept, 22 and has been making baby steps towards recovery.  The doctors believe the abnormal bleeding in Julianne  was caused by a blood clot that had formed from trauma and ruptured, causing an abruption. Earlier this year my wife (and Jude) were in 2 different car accidents that the doctors think could have played a role. But, our focus is on Jude and making sure both mom and son are 100% before coming home. Jude is truly a miraculous little fighter who has already made handprints on our hearts.  We will make posts as often as possible to let you know about his recovery and the progress he is making. Jude’s family consists of; Corey (Daddy), Julianne (Mommy), Kennedy (sister), and Elliott (sister)
