Galtymore trek for Fionn Ó'Longaigh
Donation protected
Last year one of my closet friends and his wife received the devastating news that their youngest son, Fionn, had been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). This is the most virulent form of Muscular Dystrophy and affects 1 in every 3500 male children born. DMD results in progressive muscle weakness as muscle cells break down and are gradually lost. Fionn now has difficulty in walking and finds it difficult to play physical games with his brother and two sisters. Fionn is eight years old and his muscular strength will continue to deteriorate over the coming years.
For Fionn’s family this means that extensive modifications will be required to their home. These modifications will be very expensive. What we can do to ease the emotional strain on Fionn’s family is limited but we can do something concrete to ease the financial burden. To that end some of Fionn’s family and friends are undertaking a sponsored trek of Galteemore on the 4th of June to raise funds towards the house modifications.
Most of us have not had to deal with such a life altering illness and this is our opportunity to show solidarity with a family who have been touched by this challenge. I would ask you to contribute generously to this fund raising effort and I can assure you that with the exception of the gofundme.com fees all funds raised will go to Fionn and his family.
Thank you,
Friends of Fionn.
