Please help Ms. A make it through!

My name is Susan and I am good friend of Bonnie Alamillo. We also have worked together in the classroom.

She is struggling right now after realizing her entire life has taken a turn that she wasn’t expecting or planning for.

I wanted to start this campaign to try and raise money to help her with the financial burdens she is facing. Your donation would go directly towards her rent and bills that are past due. Please open your heart as you read her story and why she needs help right now.

My friend Bonnie is an amazing special education teacher. She has a passion for autism and truly has a gift to offer her students. She faced a traumatic injury by a student last September while trying to protect one of her aides leaving her with a traumatic brain injury and is currently suffering from major cognitive delays.

Public schools need to have much better support systems in place and be “set up” to successfully teach this population. Classrooms for students with special needs have to be equipped with the proper materials, space, curriculum and support.

Her classroom lacked these things due to funding and lack of support. This could have been avoided had the classroom been better equipped and everyone properly trained.

This shouldn’t happen to anyone, let alone a teacher who was in this field because of her love and passion for autism.

11 months later, she is still undergoing treatment and the future is still unknown. The district non re-elected (terminated) her (for no apparent reason) while she was at home recovering from an injury that could have been prevented. She is now unemployed, temp. disabled and has lost her health insurance coverage and feels helpless.

She is a single mom of two teen daughters. She has lost her livelihood, her career, salary and security and is trying to focus on her healing without the added financial stress.

She will be unable to work until she is fully recovered and no longer “temp disabled” but since she isn’t “able to work” she doesn’t qualify for unemployment. She has only been teaching in this field for 4 years and now she may have to rethink her career path.

She has applied for UI, SDI, SS, and CALstrs but doesn’t qualify for any type of financial assistance. She has tried to apply for loans but because she is unemployed; it’s extremely difficult to be approved. She has sold anything and everything that has any kind of value and is now left with very few options.

It has been a challenging time for her over the last 11 months and she still has many challenging months ahead of her.

Please help in supporting her through this terrible time where her future is “unknown.” She would like to donate a percentage of the proceeds to families who have kids with special needs and/or to public SDC classrooms who are lacking resources for their students. The rest of your donation will go to helping her keep a roof over her and her daughter’s heads as well as helping to pay
bills that are past due and medical expenses.

Any amount of donation would be greatly appreciated! Nothing is too small. Funds will go directly to Bonnie.

Thanks so much for reading and please SHARE her story.
