Corrective Eye Surgery

For the past nine or so years I have been wearing glasses to correct my short-sighted vision. Anyone who wears glasses on a daily basis will know the everyday annoyance however, it was not just these small inconveniences that prompted me to consider laser eye surgery. Since the age of about 16 I have known that I want to work with animals in any way possible, but especially in conservation. One of my big passions is marine conservation and though I have been presented with the opportunity to scuba dive in multiple locations around the world, I have been unable to do so due to my poor eyesight. Wearing contact lenses or glasses under a scuba mask is not possible and without either the world is a headache-inducing blur. Two years ago I took part in a try-dive at Shrewsbury Swimming Pool and while I loved the experience, I was unable to see through the mask (bar the murky white sides of the pool and some darker blobs of people swimming). Scuba diving has always been something I'd love to be able to experience however, the dive would be wasted if all I could see was the blurry blue water. When I became a uni student in September 2017 I started researching the possibility of laser eye surgery, and after speaking to people I know who have benefited from the treatment I decided to book a consultation. After visiting the Shrewsbury branch of Optical Express I was told that I would be perfect for the LASIK surgery and could have it done before starting my second year of uni. I am now booked in for surgery on Monday, September 3rd and after this date I will be glasses-free! The surgery, however, is expensive and I am looking for any help you may be willing to offer. Every donation will go towards my life-changing surgery and I will be so grateful for any help. My goal is to raise £1500 to go towards the cost of this procedure. I understand that not everyone is in the position to donate, but even the smallest amount will help and mean so much to me.
