 NEW HOPE, PA
If you are one of Mark Lipinski’s “cupcakes,” then you already know something about his medical saga. You know that this beloved quilt world figure became very ill with polycystic kidney disease and had a kidney transplant in 2013. You may know that his neighbor Mary donated her kidney, and that Mark named his feisty new kidney “Beyonce.”

If you keep up with Mark on social media, you also know that after his recovery from surgery and a welcome return to teaching and lecturing all across the U.S. this year, he suddenly fell ill with alarming, persistent high fevers and returned to the hospital that performed his transplant procedure.  He was hospitalized for more than  two months, and biopsies were completed on almost every organ in his body. Eventually the doctors at St. Barnabas discovered that a fungus in Mark’s lungs was responsible for his fevers and chills, a fungus that had lain dormant for decades. With his immune system compromised, that fungus sprang into action and before long, threatened Mark’s very life.

Thanks to good care and powerful drugs, Mark has recently returned back home on Pickle Road, with a hopeful prognosis. But he’s in a weakened state and has had to cancel many months of bookings and writing assignments, leaving him in financial difficulties.

Drumroll: Enter, two pushy broads. Liza Lucy and I, Meg Cox, have been two of Mark’s closest friends in and out of quilting for many years, and we have leapt into action to try to make sure Mark recovers without money worries.  We had heard about GoFundMe and knew that it was often used to pay high medical bills by reaching out to a caring community. We know how much Mark’s friends and fans missed him every time he disappeared from social media to keep fighting this horrible illness that brought him down, and we believe that together, we can help him get strong and stay well.

Everywhere we go, other quilters ask us “How is Mark doing?” and “How can I help?”  We’ve just answered the first question, and this crowdsourced fund is the answer to the second question.

The medical bills are going to be huge, even with a good insurance plan, and those of us who love Mark most want to do something to lighten his load. As much as Mark loves fabric and books, we know he is already working hard to simplify his stash and unload belongings, one tenet of the Slow Stitching Movement that he practices as well as preaches. So rather than send him more things, we want to express our love in a direct way that will help him get back on his feet.

We hope you too love the way Mark inspires quilters and makes us laugh, giving us new insights into the craft that brings so much joy to our lives.  Please, consider donating any amount toward this fund to help pay for Mark’s recovery, pitching in to fund the parts of his huge medical bills that won’t be covered by insurance. Small donations can add up, as previous GoFundMe campaigns have shown.

You can donate by credit card right on this site or, if you rather, send a check made out to Mark Lipinski to:

Hello Fellow Cupcakes!
As many of you already know, Mark Lipinski is back in the hospital again. Probably due to some of the issues that landed Mark in the hospital last winter, his body is trying to reject his transplanted kidney (whom he fondly calls Beyonce.)
Many of you have already been extremely generous, and Liza Lucy and I were, in fact, getting ready to close this fund. The money previously donated has been forwarded to Mark and has been a HUGE help in paying the endless hospital bills from his previous lengthy hospitalization.
We are fervently hoping and expecting that his current stay in the hospital will be much, much shorter. But since some of you already took it upon yourselves to donate anew to this existing fund, we decided to try to spread the word once again.
Any amount of money is a fantastic gift of love to Mark: it isn't the dollar signs by themselves that have wrapped him in a sense of love and regard, but the fact that so many people would take the time and trouble and expense to help him. More than 300 people have donated to this fund!! So, if you love Mark and wish there was something you could do to help him heal and lift lift him in love, well, this is a powerful and immediate option.
And please, spread the word!
Thanks so much.
love, Meg and Liza

Dear Friends of Mark--
Let's give Mark Lipinski's Recovery Fund a big boost in honor of Valentine's Day, coming on Sunday. Show your love of Mark by making a donation of any amount and including a message of love.
Since December 20, there have been donations from 494 people and we are more than a third of the way to our goal. I had the pleasure of having lunch with Mark just this week and I can tell you that his blood counts are good and that he's doing much better, but he has a long way to go to full recovery and still isn't able to write or teach.
Send him a love note between now and Valentine's Day and keep him energized!
Thank you all so very, very much. He is so grateful for the love and support.

So far, Mark has barely had the strength to leave his house for short errands and hospital check-ups, but he is slowly regaining health. And he has returned to social media. If you didn't catch it, he posted a very emotional thank you to all the generous people who have contributed to this fund: here is a link to that blog post: http://tinyurl.com/zcff6or
Thank you all!!!!!!!!

just saw where someone else used "Patreon" as a way to sort of have an online "tip jar", maybe to help during your recovery. i mean, if i watch a trio in a bar, a comedian or magician in a restaurant, we tip a few bucks each time. maybe if it was addressed this way, people would be inspired to give even a few dollars at a time. just a thought. God speed on your road to full recovery. i'm sure you're going stir crazy too.

Please make mention that "GoFundMe" takes a bite out of every donation - maybe folks would give a tad more to cover the fee (6% I think)... Get Well Soon, Mark
