For the Love of Dottie

Donation protected
Dottie has lived a life of service to others.
When we were kids she brought her Mom, and later her Aunt, to our home to care for them as they ultimately succumbed to cancer. Growing up she was a beloved “neighborhood” mom, feeding anyone that stepped into her kitchen. Once we were teenagers, she began fostering children. Ultimately providing safe, compassionate care to 48 kids, predominantly emergent and special needs. In 1995 four of those kids would bring an end to her role as a foster mom as she went on to adopt an infant, two toddlers and a 4 year old!Fast forward to today and you’ll find that her and her husband of 26 years have turned one of the kids old rooms into a home for a dear friend that is now receiving in home hospice. In her early 30’s Dottie fought and beat ovarian and uterine cancer. Then in 2014 she was diagnosed with Lymphoma and has since undergone 2 surgeries to remove tumors in her throat.   Last fall a spot on her lung appeared to be growing and was subsequently diagnosed as lung cancer. A surgery consult was scheduled, unfortunately, she then fell and broke her femur. This February, once she had regained some strength following surgery and rehab, she underwent a lung resection to remove the continuously growing lung cancer. Being the fighter that she is, she quickly rehabilitated and got back to work. On August 1st she celebrated her 67th birthday and less than a week later received the devastating news that the lung cancer returned with a vengeance and the lymphoma was no longer in remission. The oncologist immediately wrote her out of work and began working on her plan for chemo, immunotherapy and radiation. Dottie’s job in customer service at Best Buy wasn’t only her social outlet, it was her livelihood, and it’s kept a roof over their heads for nearly 15 years. I’m asking for your help in giving back to a woman that has done so much for so many… Our goal is to lessen her financial hardships as she fights her biggest battle yet. A donation of any size, an encouraging word or a share of the campaign is appreciated beyond measure!
