Logan and Family Needs

Logan was admitted to Loma Linda children's hospital on July 14th with a dystonic crisis, 6 days later, he started to have trouble breathing and started to have a major GI bleed. Thankfully we were already in the ICU, and the doctors and nurses acted fast....he was immediately intubated and brought down for emergency surgery. Our surgeon said if he would have went 6 more hours we would have lost our wonderful boy.
We soon realized he is fighting a major episode of sepsis and lung infection as well as infected bowels. He has now had 2 surgeries and another lined up for Friday. He has had a few inches of bowels removed. We are hoping he can get over the infections and be better than ever, but it will take some time and hard work....
We have not been able to work in the last few years as Logan has required extensive care from both Mom and Dad, as well as a little sister Lucy, who needs our support. Thankfully California has a great program called IHSS (In-home supportive services) that pays us to be his home health aide. However when Logan is admitted to the hospital we cannot take advantage of the program, and we do not get paid.
Just like any other family we still have bills to be paid and expenses as food, transportation to and from hospital, and daily needs. We recently had to purchase a wheelchair van to transport Logan, which cost us $16K and is already needing major work.
Logan will need a gate trainer when we get out to help with his gut motility but unfortunately his insurance will not pay for it , if he cannot prove that he can walk in it across a room...which he cannot do right now. The gate trainer will cost at least $4k-$5k dollars for what he will need. We feel that this will be a very important part of his healing process. We have looked for used gate trainers on ebay and craigslist, but he will still need a lot of modifications to use it safely and effectively.
We are working with social workers to find options to cover some of our needs but unfortunately we need a lot more than they can provide. We hope that through this page and some other fundraising ideas we can get some relief of the heavy stress that financial needs cost. We need to focus on Logan and our family’s needs.
