Running 8k for the AKT

£175 of £200 goal

Raised by 11 people in 13 months
On the 6th of October, we are running 8k to raise money for the Albert Kennedy Trust, a charity that helps homeless LGBT+ youth in London. A recent government survey estimates that 3.3% of 16-25 year olds are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (this statistic does not include minority orientations). However, over a quarter of the UK’s homeless population is LGBT. This means that they are seven times over-representated among the homeless. 46% of homeless LGBT+ youth said they had run away from home because their family did not accept their sexuality or gender identity. 43% had been forced out of their homes and 32% had experienced abuse at home. We’re running because we believe that nobody should be abused or disowned for being who they are and that people shouldn’t have to be scared of coming out in case their family don’t accept them. Any donations will help, no matter how big or small. Here’s how:Through the Albert Kennedy Trust, £9.99 will provide a young person with a basic mobile phone to keep them connected and allow them to access emergency services and other forms of help, instead of being cut off and isolated. £25 keeps a young person safe for one night when homeless or being abused for who they are. £50 provides a young person with an Emergency Support Pack, which includes three nights’ accommodation, toiletries, bedding, mobile phone top-up, travel allowance and food vouchers. £250 contributes towards a Rainbow Starter Pack to assist a young person with necessary items as they move into independent living. If you can, please help support us as we help support them.
