Help Save Our Volunteers

The Melville Millionaires Baseball Club is a baseball team playing in the smallest market city in the Western Major Baseball League and is struggling to stay alive.  What is worse, and the reason for this appeal, is the small group of volunteers who fought so hard to keep this team afloat find themselves responsible both financially and legally for the debts and losses incurred under prior boards.  These are volunteers who were trying to do what was best for their community and are now being held personally responsible for the finances.  Canada, especially rural Canada,  was built on the tradition of volunteerism, and it is sad to see good people being punished for attempting to make their community a better place to live.  If you could see fit to show your support for this group of dedicated volunteers, it would be very much appreciated.

The Melville Millionaires Baseball Club have a long and storied history in the City of Melville and are able to claim a couple of Major League ballplayers as alumni. Terry Puhl, former Houston Astro, and John Axford, current Toronto Blue Jay, both got their start as Melville Millionaires.  The team, and league, is a place for college-eligible athletes to further develop their skills, with hopes of reaching the Major League.  It provides good family entertainment for the community in the summer months and fosters an opportunity for the players, many of whom come from out-of-province and country, to give back to the community that hosts them for the summer.  The city’s population numbers are very small, and the financial requirements to run a baseball club in the league are very high.  The accumulated debt load of the club is now in excess of $70,000.  Your support would be so very much appreciated.
