Creative Tech For Poverty Kids

$445 of $550 goal

Hello!
I work in a school which houses students in some of the highest poverty. Over 80% of our students qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. Funding in our school needs to go to helping our families as much as possible, such as with school supplies, uniforms, and books to read at home. One area where we struggle is in supplying creative and educational ways to use tech.

This is where the school's library comes in. I am the librarian and I have been using tech in as many ways as I can. In the library I have taught students how to set up accounts, set desktop images through key skills, learn typing skills and coding skills, as well as how to use googledocs to collaborate online. One element, though, we are missing is creative ways to use STEM.

Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) are now becoming the keystones of education. Minecraftedu is a fun and interactive way for students to gain needed computer, social, and STEM skills. This program takes a known and loved game and created a community which designs and implements education through Minecraft. If I had this available to my students it would increase their social interaction through the collaborative process of designing different elements in the game, help gain abstract spatial awareness which is key in engineering, and learn how to use the mouse and keyboard in a fun way which will prepare them for their assessments that are all taken on the computer now.

Please, help my students in donating to this cause. They, and I, will love you for it!
