Dads our hero. Help us, help him (:

This story is about our dad’s health and how it has affected his life. We're hoping that with a little help we can make things a little easier for him and his wife (Toni). Scott is 42 years old and a father of 4 children aged 22, 19, 10 and 8 years old. He has also just become a grandfather to a baby boy who is 8 weeks old. At a young age of just 12 our dad was diagnosed with type 1 insulin dependent diabetes. He has always suffered with bowel issues which he feels ruins our family outings. A side effect of diabetes is loss of sight. In 2008 he began to have laser eye surgery to try and help prevent total loss of his eye sight. In 2009 Scott got diagnosed with kidney and pancreas failure, he had to go on dialysis and wait out the waiting game, he became extremely sick while waiting and only had 7% left of kidney function. The day came in December 2010 when we got the call that they had found a match. With a long recovery and constant checkups dad was doing better than ever!!

Unfortunately in 2014 he then got diagnosed with brochiactis which is an incurable lung disease that is now something that he still deals with in everyday of his life. Sometimes he will go into a coughing fit and can’t catch his breath but this is normal for him. In September 2016 Scott got diagnosed with criptococoal meningitis, which parts of his memory were affected along with the spinal and brain lining. He was in hospital for 6 weeks recovering. Still to this day he is trying to fight off the meningitis to make sure it doesn’t come back as he has a suppressed immune system.

Even though everything he has been through he has never stopped working until this year. He has always wanted to give us children and our mum the best possible life. He never looks for the easy way out. He honestly is a super star and anyone that knows him would say how strong he is. He is still fighting the battle.

Last year after the meningitis he was diagnosed with kidney failure for the second time.

Now our dad has to go through that transplant process again. He has just started dialysis again. This time it will be a lot harder with all his new conditions. We are trying to help raise money to pay off their bills so mum and dad doesn’t have to stress so much about money. Mum might have to give up her job to look after dad yet. We are playing the waiting game and not sure how long it will be till he can get another transplant. As dad has already had a transplant the recovery is also a lot more are they have to remove the kidney that is no longer working, let him heal and then when the organ comes he then will be ready for a new one.

We aren’t sure if it’s a result of have the meningitis or not but May 2017 dad is now having loss of hearing. Dad is quite upset that he isn’t able to get hearing aids as he can’t afford them so that is something that we are working on at the moment as well. Due to having diabetes and being on so many different types of medications dads teeth have taken a beating. He feels so uncomfortable and hates to even smile.

All of the things I have mentioned are the things that your money would be going towards in making his life a little more enjoyable. It’s a lot on the body. So please help us in making dads life a little better.
