My name is James. I have been living in my truck now for 5 years teaching Outdoor Experiential Education. I travel all over the country teaching students ranging from 2nd grade through College. The curriculum we use revolves around base camping, backpacking, rock climbing and kayaking with emphasis on self growth, leadership, team building and communication while learning about plant and animal adaptations, ecology, geology, night life and history of our state and national parks.
My truck's engine just recently blew up. My truck is the most vital part of how all this is put together. It was not only my home it was my office and my transportation to and from these programs. I am completely stuck. I need to buy a van that I can live and work from comfortably so I can continue to bring an outdoor awareness to humans of all ages.
I need to buy a vehicle that is large enough to build a bed and a desk to work from, with some storage, a fridge and a sink that's self powered by solar. With that, I can comfortably travel from park to park facilitating programs as big as 200 7th grade students in a back country environment for 7 days or more.
I should have been on the road a month ago. I have already failed to show up to 3 programs that would have involved over 700 students in total. This is breaking my spirit. Knowing that I can't be the difference these students need, and an example that shows them a different way of life.
