Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

As most of you know, Dan was diagnosed with COPD about 6 years ago when he underwent quadruple bypass surgery.  While this was a big set back for his health, he has for the most part learned how to live with it over the years.  This all started to change last November when his health really started to decline after he came down with pneumonia.  Since then, he has been in and out of the hospital dealing with infections and hasn't been able to recover.  After multiple visits to the doctors and ER, he was hospitalized for the third time this week when his condition worsened and he started coughing up blood.  Right now the priority is to try and stop the bleeding in the lungs, which has been a challenge for the doctors.   With much of his lung tissue being heavily diseased, it is very difficult to recover from any infection and the risk of recurring infection remains high.

A long road lies ahead for Dan.  The hope is that we are able to locate and control the bleed and get him to a point where he can focus on recovery.  Ideally this will involve moving him to a transitional care facility where he will have a dedicated care team to focus on rehabilitation.  Throughout all of this, Dan remains "Dan", optimistically witty and strong.  It has been so hard to watch his health deteriorate and we pray that he will recover and be home soon, amidst the chaos of his loving dysfunctional family.

We so appreciate everyone's interest and the outpouring of support for the family.  We will keep you updated on his progress and ask that you keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

As it is with many healthcare journeys, there have been some major financial set backs due to medical bills, missed days of work, and anticipated expenses to move the family into a more suitable one level living environment for Dan's recovery.   We have set up a Go Fund Me site to help support the family through this trying time.  We are so very grateful for your generosity.
