The War on Bacteria

The War on Bacteria (2019) is a documentary on one of the biggest threats to global health today, antibiotic resistance. 700,000 people die each year from infections complicated by antibiotics and by 2050, this number will have grown to 10 million a year. This means that very soon infections will kill more than cancer. With this documentary we plan to raise awareness for this issue and engage the public in understanding the challenges and opportunities in combating resistance.


Dr Hazel Barton who as previously worked with David Attenborough and appeared on Networks like the BBC and National Geographic will feature in our film. Dr Hazel Barton is a Professor of biology and geosciences at the University of Akron. Deep in one of the longest caves in the world, she has been studying the evolution of antibiotic resistance.  This work has revealed that the chemical arms race that led to resistance may also revealed an Achilles heel – resistance breakers.  Dr. Barton believes that harnessing these resistance breakers and turning them against antibiotic-resistant bacteria, re-arming and reinvigorating our existing antibiotic arsenal.

Filmmaking has become a part of me for a few years now and it’s what I am passionate about. To have an opportunity to work in such a great documentary is a great honour and I will do my best to help make this documentary even greater.


Sound – Adriane Wong
Music has always been part of my life as I grew up in a musical family. Sound editing gives me the opportunity to explore the various type of music and sounds. I’m so grateful to be working with amazing people on this documentary with an inspiring story and I hope to provide my best in sound mixing and editing for this film.


Production Designer/Marketing – Monika Bartkevičiūté
I was always interested in design and film making and I was trying to figure out how I could make them both happen. In this documentary I want to make everything visually pleasing for the viewers. I have set myself a big challenge which I want achieve.



BUDGET
We need your help! With your funding we will be able to travel to the US and interview some of the top scientist in this field, they will share their thoughts and research on what can be done to combat antibiotic resistance. If this project reaches enough people, it will make a difference in the fight against antibiotic resistance. Help us make a difference!

Pre-production budget:

Research shoots: We are going to be doing lots of research and social media shoots in and around London, in order to get as much material for our film as possible, with transport cost and location cost we estimate we will be spending around £500.  

Paperwork: We will be spending £100 on professional paperwork, including business cards, production pack and any extra paperwork costs.

Production Budget:

Airfare: The majority of our production budget is going to be on airfares and other travel cost. this is because in order to interview Dr Hazel Barton we need to travel to the USA. This will cost approximately £1,000 for three crew members to go. 

Extra travel cost: With all of our traveling, we estimate that we will spend £500 on gas, parking, tolls and taxis.

Hotel: We will be using hotels while filming and estimate a cost of £300

Equipment hire: We anticipate that we may need to hire extra film equipment, this is because we might not be able to take all of our equipment over to the US, this adds £250 to our budget.

Meals: We have a budget of £100 for meals  during the shoot

Post-production: The lowest percentage of our budget will be used in pre-production; however, we want to make sure we have both high-quality animation and music in order for the documentary to be both visually and musically stimulating.

Contingency:  we are putting aside between £250 and £500 as emergency money that can be used for extra cost that we may incur during the production.
