Support Orphans in Liberia

$26,231 of $20,000 goal

Raised by 179 people in 56 months
In post war Liberia supporting the countries youth especially younger children has become a top priority especially in light of the 350,000 children who are now growing up without any form of parental care. Due to the economic situation many families in Liberia cannot afford to properly feed their children or the orphans they have taken into their households. The recent outbreak of Ebola has made the situation much worse.
There are thousands of children that are malnourished and one out of five children are underweight. The mission of the Messianic Orphanage, Widows and Children's Foundation (MOWCF) is to provide opportunities to orphans, widows and children affected by war.

We are starting our support with a goal to cover housing,  food provision, schooling and more for
for 5 children.

Please consider supporting us in the effort and visit us at www.mowcf.org or www.facebook.com/mowcf to learn more about MOWCF.

MOWCF is reaching out to our supporters and friends with an appeal to help meet some large expenses that have come up around the same time. Both school fees as well as rent were due the same time and due to limited resources we could not meet both of them. We are thankful to have secured 6 months of rent but still lack the necessary funds to cover yearly school cost for all of the orphans within our care.

Classes begin September 10, 2015. We current have 50% of the required funds to cover these yearly fees.

If anyway can give a little what a blessing it would be. We don't want to see the kids drop out of school.

Please keep Liberia in your prayers. Currently it has been raining off and on in Monrovia since last April. Paynesville a town not to far from the our orphanage has been effected with large amount of flooding. Some Messianic families who have ties to MOWCF staff have been displaced as a result. Please lift them up to the father. We hope to have more info soon.

In Liberia simple things like drinking water can be deadly. Most families in Liberia get water from local wells like the one seen here. This however does not come without risk as such wells often are contaminated with Typhoid Fever or Malaria. Luckily the contributions made to MOWCF ensure that our children receive clean drinking water. Unlike the west such water comes in bags as apposed to bottles.

MOWCF: Our Journey through the Past Year

It has been a year since MOWCF was founded, and God has already done many amazing things. The fourteen-year civil war in Liberia left many children orphaned and left many widows throughout the country, which was already one of the poorest countries in the world. With the help of Jerry Tweh, who is a refugee from the war himself, MOWCF was born to help these orphans and widows.

One of the first hurdles to getting MOWCF started was getting “NGO” or non-profit status for MOWCF in Liberia. After their civil war, the government is still full of corruption, and a task like this can take months to get processed. God provided, however, and MOWCF was granted NGO status. This allowed MOWCF to officially and legally take in orphans to care for in the country.

After obtaining all the necessary documents to run the organization, we needed a place to house orphans that would provide shelter and safety. We thought we had the perfect place, a multi-bedroom apartment that was gated. Gated housing is not easy to find in Liberia, so we were thrilled God provided such a blessing that would keep our kids safe. Our hopes were soon dashed, however, when we had trouble transferring money from banks in America to banks in Africa. It took us nearly three weeks to transfer the funds needed for the deposit for the apartment, during which time, the money was held up in banks and sent back and forth between the countries. We were feeling like the enemy was really trying to do everything to thwart us getting the building.

Sadly, we lost what seemed like the perfect location, but we trusted God. We found another building that was bigger, but not gated. We thought about putting a deposit down on this building, but God intervened before we did. The landlord from the original building called Jerry and said he did not feel comfortable renting to the other people who beat us to the deposit. He said he’d feel better with our organization renting his apartment, and by this time, the funds were smoothly transferred to put down the deposit and pay for the building for a year! Praise God!

With the building secured, MOWCF was able to provide permanent placement for three girls and one boy. One girl, Serena, lost both her parents. Even though she is 11, she is still in the first grade because her parents, and later her aunt who was taking care of her, couldn’t afford schooling. Another girl, Denise, was abandoned at one month old, and she’s now almost 4. Her grandmother was taking care of her, but since her grandmother couldn’t work, she had no means to provide the necessary care for Denise. She was burning up with a fever during her intake interview for MOWCF. Blessing is a 13 year old whose dad left when he found out her mother was pregnant, and her mother died during child birth. She was being taken care of by her aunt, who has no means of income and could not provide medical care or schooling. Joshua, our final child, is 7. Both of his parents are blind, so he had to beg for his family in the streets. Since they could not provide for him, he is now under MOWCF’s care. These kiddos are now under the care of MOWCF where, with the help of God and donations, we are able to provide for their basic needs.

It is truly a blessing to be able to care for these children. God has provided in an amazing way, and we know he will continue to bless MOWCF if we stay focused on Him and His will. Housing, food, clothing, cleaning supplies, schooling, and medical needs will be an ongoing need to keep these kids healthy and well. Please consider giving a monthly gift to help provide for these children. MOWCF and all these children are so thankful for all the support and prayers that have been provided! We’re hoping 2015 will be another great year of God doing amazing things for this organization!
