Exspanding Kailee’s Horizon

To whom it may concern,
Hello my name is Kelsey Hedge I am the mother of my amazing daughter Kailee. She is 8 years old and goes to Throop Elementary. She will be starting second grade in the fall. Kailee inherited a rare eye condition from me called Peters Anomaly. This condition is developed in the womb where the eye doesn’t fully develop and causes the front of the eye to be smashed together where the cornea is. She has had several surgeries starting at 4 weeks old to a few years ago. As great as medical technology has came theirs not much they can do. Her vision is 300/20 and she holds things almost inches from her face. At her last eye exam her vision is getting slightly worse She has had amazing teachers but school is a challenge. All of her school work has to be enlarged and she has to sit right in front of the black board. She misses so much in school from not being able to see what’s on the board. Her Ophthalmologist at Riley has highly recommended a device called Prodigi connect 12 for school. The price to get this device is about 3,000 dollars. This device will allow Kailee to put any book under it and she can enlarge it with just with the touch of her fingers. It can also allow her to point a small camera to the black board sitting anywhere in the class and enlarge it on her screen. This will not only save the teacher time and cut down on paper and ink this will be able to give her the freedom like other students gets knowing she can do her work by herself. It will give her confidence witch she needs to achieve her goals. She has never seen what goes on with a program in the gym. This could give her so much better experience in school. This device folds up to the size of a tablet and she can use it through her whole education. Just think about how exhausting it will be to have 8 classes caring papers that’s twice the size of your book bag or a small compact tablet that lets her feel confident in herself that she can complete her work. We all know kids will use something if it’s cool and this has that written all over it. Like I stated before I have this eye condition and when I got Kailee’s age I begged my parents to home school me because it was just hard caring large books and dealing with being bullied. I felt like a burdened to the teachers and had lack of confidence. I do not want this for my daughter I want her to be empowered and have everything this world has to offer and education is my top priority for her. I appreciate the time you’ve to tooken to hear her story and consider helping her better function through her education with a device that could set her up for success. Thank You and God Bless
